Pros
the corporate training is good
Cons
there is no work life balance
Advice to Senior Management
You do learn a lot but treatment of employees is different from store to store
Pros
i love this job. my managers are amazing, and my district manager is nice, but very intense. i just graduated from college and after looking for jobs i decided to take a part time job at american eagle. i was interviewed and offered the job on the spot. i have worked there for seven months, and i am on the fast track for management. i don't want to work there forever, but i would love to be an assistant manager until i find something else. i get about 24 hours a week, and i love going to work everyday.
Cons
on call shifts- that is the only thing that aggravates me in the slightest
Advice to Senior Management
no complaints. you all are doing a fantastic job!!!!
Pros
Durring holidays you are elegable for winning free product if you suceed expectations. You will be offered jeans for 10$. discount of 45% most days and 50% on the newest product. unfortunatly if the product is already in clearance you will only get 35% off the clearance price. its a very friendly place to work, and you interact with alot of people.
Cons
I worked there for a year and never got my raise. it would be a nice place to work if you didnt care much about the money..
Advice to Senior Management
they need to fill the workers in on some of the changes they make and why it had to be done. because offen it was stressful.
Pros
Employee discount would have to be the best. I'm a huge shopper so you have to love that. Health insurance is wonderful. Regional manager is helpful, district manager is friendly.
Cons
Pay is poor for high competing companies. Jim O'Donnell is getting older, so the company's growth is in question. Balls
Advice to Senior Management
Go in it with an open mind, it's a wonderful place to work. I like the movie mega mind. Balls.
Pros
there is none well the discounts
Cons
management sucks and the shifts are horrible who wants to work only fours!! and get thirty dollar checks people have bills to pay
Advice to Senior Management
fix your managment syle offer more hours and put more diversity in there
Pros
-Discount, by far the best perk.
-(mostly) Friendly staff.
-Fast paced.
-Majority of tasks are easy, but some can be challenging.
Cons
-The amount of favoritism.
-Lack of hours/"stability".
-Management completely disregarding set availability.
-Lack of concern about prior engagements/days off.
-Constant canceling of shifts, shift after shift after shift, because management hasn't abided by payroll in weeks.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop playing favorites. Do not make promises you cannot keep. Do not use more hours than pay roll allows for. Stop cancelling the same employes shifts.
Pros
Clothing discount, (really only helpful if you are in the target age group or that is your style.)
Cons
Required to push customers to sign up for credit cards.
Encouraged to target minorities and teens to sign up for credit cards (!)
No real career opportunities, on your feet all day, thankless retail work.
Advice to Senior Management
Offer some incentive rather than candy bars if you insist on requiring associates to harass customers to sign up for credit cards. I had a hard time suggesting or even mentioning them to customers because I know I HATE when people hound me to sign up for one when I am shopping.
Pros
Great work environment, supportive atmosphere, tons of opportunities to learn. The great part of working at AE is that the company allows to take leadership and implement own ideas. Management generally does a good job recognizing achievements, but this depends mostly on the district/regional manager, and could be different in different districts.
Cons
The computer-based learning process is not the most efficient, "learning by doing" concept could work much better. Most open positions and promotion opportunities are not posted for the current employees. Lack of formal development process.
Advice to Senior Management
Set more focus on development of the people that work for you, this way staff turnover will not be as high as it is, and you will not have to spend time+money+effort on looking for candidates outside of the company.
Pros
Discount, fun, fast moving, meet new people, training by hands on, placed where you will succeed.
Cons
LONG hours, favoritism, low pay, over nights, hard to get requested days off, and get calls to work on days off, and corporate does not respect the stores
Advice to Senior Management
respect your stores and its employees! do not show favoritism and fix the cons
Pros
great company to get started with a career. big company that is growing and opportunity to advance. able to move and transfer easily
Cons
the work is hard but rewarding. it is very fast pace depending on the size of the store, and some applicants may not realize how stressful a retail job can be here.
Advice to Senior Management
if a store is doing well and the numbers show it there is really no praise, but if the store has one bad day, its the end of the world
