Robert Hanson
Former Employee – worked at American Eagle Outfitters full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Energetic co-workers. Generally youthful and interesting environment. Lots of impassioned debate. Decent product.
Cons – Pittsburgh - not the most exciting place to live. Sometimes too much nitpicking over tiny details, time wasted on things that are not going to impact the business. Not always open to new ideas and input.

Current Employee – been working at American Eagle Outfitters full-time for more than a year
Pros – Great environment, Friendly people, Lots of perks, New-ish CEO that has his head on straight and his game face on. That game face usually comes with a smile and a great attitude.
Cons – Understaffed for the amount of work coming threw. Management has a tendency to "goof off" a little too much and hand down their responsibilities to the remainder of the team. Perks are used to blind you from the negative aspects of the company. HR is incredibly slow and doesn't respond properly to situations that need some looking into. But, HEY! you got tickets to the Pirates game thats all that matters right?

Former Employee – worked at American Eagle Outfitters full-time for more than a year
Pros – There are some perks to working at the HQ, such as great location in PIttsburgh and you will on very seldom occasion get access to the box for sporting events. Also if you are not a morning person most people don't show up till after 9:00 AM.
Cons – There is a lot of rework due to lack of process and lack of tools for the job given. There is also poor communication at time between teams and leadership changes strategy sometime on whim, other times the business does call for it. There is also a general lack of accountability within the organization that should facilitate solutions to the problems.
Advice to Senior Management – Understand what is causing rework, develop a culture where ownership of the business is key and develop diverse teams that will work together not a local or party culture that is exclusive. Also use your employees to drive change instead of seeking outside consultants.

Pros – Amazing CEO instills company values in the culture. Great career opportunities & room for advancement. Forward thinking and growing company that's headed in the right direction.
Cons – Starting your career there you won't be compensated as well as if you come from another company.
Advice to Senior Management – Promote from within where dedicated, passionate, talent resides.

Current Employee – been working at American Eagle Outfitters full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Decent salary, casual work wear, great discount.
Cons – Long long hours, no overtime, field inexperience of upper management, poor communication between corporate departments (LP, merchandising, and operations)
Advice to Senior Management – Do not leave your current job unless it's a significant salary jump. Do not apply if you have a family, hobbies, or a want to keep in touch with friends. On call 24hrs a day. 55hrs a week, paid for 40. Around holidays 65+. Recent changes in 'bonus structure' has made them nearly impossible. Job is way better on paper.

Current Employee – been working at American Eagle Outfitters full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – pay scale is better than alot of retailers, but it is still not enough for the expectation of managers for the company. employee discount is one of the best in the industry.
Cons – Not enough appreciation for the work you do. Pay scale definately does not meet the intense demand of the position. I have worked for 3 other companies and American Eagle does require alot from their managers... which is fine...but equal pay for equal work! Holiday hours, expecially Black Friday - opening at midnight - life/work balance.
Advice to Senior Management – Please listen to the all store management and associates - and to the customers. We were recently told to turn the volume up on the music and have had numerous complaints from customers that it's too loud! We would like to have more support about our day-to-day issues. Not having denim sizes for our customer - when we are the 'denim destination' in the mall sets us up for failure and not success.

Former Employee – worked at American Eagle Outfitters as a contractor for more than a year
Pros – Salary was great, and the building was cool.
Cons – Working for AEO Corporate was great, until you decide to actually be yourself. Don't have a personality unless you want to be fired for it. It doesn't really matter if you 'Love Your Job'--you probably won't keep it long if you do.
Advice to Senior Management – Explain what your expectations are, rather than just demanding that people perform based on principles and concepts that have never been outlined or detailed. You might, like, get a better result. Oh, and firing anyone that makes a mistake isn't going to build a team.
