Pros
Great leadership growth, communication skills enhanced, and great team building
Cons
Employees are sometimes too involved in personal life
Advice to Senior Management
Try to be more open to new comers
Pros
Good pay
Great discounts
Awesome management
Awesome sales experience
Cons
Short lunch break, but that's to be expected
Pros
for me my favorite part about working at ae was the people i work with, the management staff was more then i could have asked for. I also really appreciate that ae finds out what your good at and helps you to become better, rather than just simply knowing how to do several things.
Cons
the cons are a little more difficult to think of, the one thing is that hq is more involved than necessary.
Advice to Senior Management
there ian't anything i would change.
Pros
Schedule off time easy. Great associates, AWESOME assistant managers. Great costumers that keep coming back!
Cons
Schedule changes not always fallowed, my senior management rarely positively supports team. Conversion. More about the numbers then the customer.
Advice to Senior Management
Senior Management: Get your act together... Stop going over in hours each week, and stop being negative all the time to your team. No one wants to work for you after the first week. thats why we all leave
Assistant Managers: YOU ARE THE BEST!!!! Keep it up and hold on to the store, your why we stay around. You keep us sane.
Pros
You get a great discount. 40% off all regular priced merch, 25% off any clearance items and after floor sets with new clothing, we got 2 weeks of 50% off anything for ourselves.
You're always working with at least one other person so you're not too strained.
They have high standards and you can feel proud about where you work.
Cons
They hire A LOT of people, more than they really need and you end up with minimal hours. They don't easily let go of people after the holiday season, so they carry a lot of unneeded weight.
I worked there for 4 years and the first time I didn't show up for a shift without calling was because I had no idea I had the shift. They didn't think about my great performance beforehand but instead told me to never show up again. I can honestly say I was a great employee and I had high standards for myself there, but it hurt knowing I didn't receive any respect.
They cut hours just like that, so even if you think you will be working 4 hours you might get cut and work only 2.
Shifts are short so it's a hassle to go to work only to be there 3-4 hours. Only management receive longer shifts.
Advice to Senior Management
Get feedback from your sales associates about the store managers and assistant managers. Also, ask US more questions because we do know what we're talking about half the time.
Pros
great 40% discount on reg price and 25% clearance
interesting and fun customers and staff
opportunity to relocate
great for first time store managers
great brand and quality
Cons
quality of work/life balance,
some leaders like to manage through fear and intimidation
not treated as a person only a number
during leadership changes, people feel their job is automatically at risk
Advice to Senior Management
There are reasons some areas struggle with keeping managers.....usually it comes down to the DM. I hope that new leadership will bring positive changes!
Pros
Compensation- but you work your butt off to get it with little recognition.
Discounts
Life long friendships
Cons
American Eagle Outfitters store employees are extremely under appreciated and over worked.
At the end of the day, each store employee is disposable and expendable in the eyes of the corporation. They are more focused on the bottom dollar- for example opening stores in other countries, remodeling exisiting stores, and creating commercials, than the welfare of the employees in the US. For example: closing 30 stores company wide in 2012 and eliminating jobs in the US.
Advice to Senior Management
Value your employees- especially the ones who thrive on doing a great job and deliver great results,
Pros
friendly enviorment to work in
good people to work with
a lot of product knowledge
a lot of customer service expierence
Cons
no chance of raises
no matter your ability, promotions are hard to come by
mangers can be difficult to communicate with
not enough managers
Advice to Senior Management
some of us do your job for no where near your pay, and then you pretend it's not like that so we leave. now you have no mangers, and all good employees are gone. take notice of the good ones
Pros
This is an easy retail job that is accommodating for a school schedule or a second job. Gives the opportunity to receive standard retail experience.
Cons
Management is not always stable and often necessary information is not passed down. It is very difficult to move up in the company without stable management.
Pros
The best thing AE gave to me were long time friends.
Cons
-Power Struggle amongst the Managers and Leads.
-Unorganized.
-Managers and Leads always on your back.
-Walkie Talkies needed to be on and in your ear at all times. I left with a headache after every shift.
-Hiring new people but cutting current employees hours. (makes no sense)
Advice to Senior Management
This place is a mess!! Everyone whose worked here ends up leaving after a month because they can't take the BS.
