I worked at American Eagle Outfitters full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You can earn a lot of really great sales and customer relations experience working in retail. The employee discount is nice too.

    Cons

Your experience, positive or negative, is dependent on the store you work in. High risk is you get a "bad" or "hostile" store.

I have been working at American Eagle Outfitters full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The people are friendly and work hard

    Cons

Management is clueless and out of touch. They rarely offer to help their teams and expect everyone to work long hours. Also things change constantly at the whims of leadership with no thought to the people working there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open minded and actually listen to your employees. Quit pushing policies and actions just because that's how it's always done

I have been working at American Eagle Outfitters full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great people, you learn a ton about design really quickly, paid for CAD training for me, was good for lateral growth in job title,.

    Cons

Hasn't invested in updating design tools in years, still working with Adobe CS3, poor morale of workers, deadlines and meeting objectives are always unclear, poor opportunity for growth for designers looking to move upward and forward in their careers. Lots of wheel-spinning when it comes to actual work and decision-making. Poor environment for workplace innovation and new ideas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would say first and foremost, consider updating your equipment and tools. There is A TON of work that gets done that could be done in faster and easier ways if people would just listen to new ideas. Design a calendar and stick to it. Pay more attention to the realities of the business supply-chain wise and realign the expectations from cross-function partners to ones based more in reality, and work might get done faster.

I worked at American Eagle Outfitters

    Pros

The process for becoming an employee was enjoyable for the most part, not too boring. They knew that the thing you wanted to do most was to work. They keep it real, and don't try to sugarcoat anything. They just expect you to do your part.

    Cons

The job does get very boring after long periods of time, and you cannot really escape the repeating soundtrack they play. Monotonous to fold clothes over and over again.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider trying to give incentives for employees, maybe at LEAST a shirt and a pair of khaki pants, or maybe a 20 dollar store credit to offset the price of the uniform. It's hard to expect the employees to wear only American Eagle apparel when they have to pay for it with a minimal discount. It makes it feel like upper management does not care about the happiness of the employees
