Current Employee – been working at American Express
Pros – A trust-worthy, well-respected company with a great brand image. It does promote a work life balance and most managers try to maintain that culture.
Cons – While work life balance is talked about, in some parts of the organization it's just not possible. Very coprorate and conservative workplace.
Advice to Senior Management – Interact more with employees at lower band levels. Most VPs/SVPs in my time at amex did not give us oppty to meet and greet and showcase our work.

Current Employee – been working at American Express
Pros – started on the phones, hard work pays off, moved up and have moved around to several different departments. making over 50k with no degree. the majority of the leadership and peers are great and work hard.
Cons – if you have a bad leader then you are miserable. some business partners are awful and refuse to work as a team, specifically the training department. if you have a bad leader then they can stop you from posting out or up. they need to be more flexable with working from home.
Advice to Senior Management – hire the training department to write training. bring OJT and classroom training back to each department, get rid of the outside trainers who don't understand how to prepare their learners.

Current Employee – been working at American Express
Pros – The company itself is great. Lots of opportunities, very friendly staff, etc. Very diverse and accepting, and extremely passionate about products and services.
Cons – Audit department is not the place to be right now. Poor leadership and extreme turnover as a result. Now's not the time.
Advice to Senior Management – Develop a better program to identify poor performance of department heads and react more quickly. There is a large number of people in a critical function without any real leadership.

Former Employee – worked at American Express
Pros – Amex employs Very smart people, has a great culture of info share and collaboration, nice location, good oppy for growth and movement
Cons – Some find it to be very political. Those that do well here footer good relationships with peers and senior management. Compensation isn't fabulous, but there are a lot of other benefits that are good.
Advice to Senior Management – Improve compensation, take employee surveys to heart. Continue to invest in people and leadership training. Stay on the forefront in advertisement and brand equity, that makes people love working for Amex.
