Advice to Senior Management
Open up line of communication between management and employees and Listen to employees concerns
Pros
Virtual offices; benefits of large company; potential for advancement, esp if in a hub city
Cons
Political; very much "this is the way we do it" mindset; doesn't integrate well
Advice to Senior Management
Leaders should be moved around to allow diversity, transparency and growth
Pros
Amex has some of the smartest people in the profession. It provides an environment where you will learn and grow everyday.
Cons
Amex is one of the lowest paying financial services companies
Pros
Company Heritage
Global environment an unique business model
Diversity of business lines and teams
Cons
Limited career development
Salary and compensation not necessary match the position scope and responsibilities
Lack of collaboration across business units
Pros
Blue Box Values are real, not a wall decoration.
Cons
Work-life balance is not easy to achieve.
Pros
The opportunities for growth if you have the drive for it. Leadership in my office is really good. They're helpful.
Cons
Obviously it's a big company so getting a hold of HR or anything of the like, you have to call a call center. That's pretty annoying.
Advice to Senior Management
Maybe I got lucky with the manager i got but I don't have any advice for them. They are great.
Pros
Work life balance
ability to move around within the company
Cons
Large corporate can be frustrating
Pros
Strong company, good benefits, focus on employee development
Cons
Frequent restructure can be somewhat disruptive to long-term projects
Pros
Lots of disparate yet related businesses, willing to make big bets (such as currently on mobile & alternative payments through Enterprise Growth), great communication from senior AXP management, good work/life balance (most of the time).
Cons
Some business units (such as Global Business Travel) are virtually unknown to the core BUs, which makes it harder when trying to move (especially when going for a band-level promotion at the same time). Ratings/bonus/promotion can be very political despite a seemingly level playing field and calibration sessions. However, I've only been in GBT and hear that there are much more opportunities for advancement in other BUs.
Advice to Senior Management
Create true incentives for business units to collaborate because many don't and people are focused on their internal goals. Have a program to assist high-rated B35s in moving across BUs. Expand 9 box ratings to high-performing B35s and encourage them to stay at AXP.
Pros
pro is work and life balance, people respect each other, and work with each other well, very diversified culture, many female leaders
Cons
dont have any suggestion for current management at american express , maybe the company can promote more young people who really wants to grow in the company
