Advice to Senior Management
dont have any suggestion for current management at american express , maybe the company can promote more young people who really wants to grow in the company
Pros
Location, is one of the best in NYC World Financial Center on the Hudson River.
Great work environment
Professional atmosphere
Cons
The company is consensus driven to a fault. Can be frustrating.
It is my opinion that it culls older workers on a regular basis.
Advice to Senior Management
American Express has reinvented itself many times in the past. They may be too card centric to survive a payment process game changer.
Pros
Absolute respoect for the individual and a great diversity base. The company prides itself in looking after the customers like no other, and the actions taken truly are aligned to that. The company looks forward to greater challenges and all are involved.
Cons
Decision making tends to be somewhat slow and based always on consensus.
Pros
Large organization can offer a series of experiences
Cons
hierarchical and bureaucratic which can put off employees
Advice to Senior Management
invest in people
Pros
If you like work life balance you will enjoy working here. However, too much balance can hamper your career advancement.
Cons
While it promotes diversity, the management team remains a bastion of white males. The company can use much more diversity in its management team.
Advice to Senior Management
There are times when you need to trim the ranks for the betterment of the company. Trim the dead weight more often.
Pros
great benefits, can have good career progression opportunites
Cons
some management is poor, very clicky within staff
Pros
Great Pay and Benefits
Nice work environment
Flexible with work schedule/location can work from home some days
Cons
constant reorgs and layoffs
replacing employees with onbshore contractors is a continued and aggressive trend
Not even competition against h1b worker for it jobs, as they don't have the same expenses as cirtizens
Must be able to "live with" training H1B workers who will take over US jobs
Advice to Senior Management
Why do you pay 75 dollars an hour to have a contractor work onshore, and only 45 dollars an hour to an employee? I just don't see the economics. Plus there is a high turnover and these folks are usually young and inexperienced it workers. They don't seem to have any more skills and experience than our employees that have been laid off and lost their jobs over the years.
Pros
good career stability and growth
Cons
high pressure environment with great team goals
Advice to Senior Management
take it easy .
Pros
Smart people, if you're a marketer it's one of the best marketing firms
Cons
Long hours - not always thinking outside the box and hard to see what will happen when most of the world's payments will NOT be on the card but on a smartphone or computer
