Pros
Location, is one of the best in NYC World Financial Center on the Hudson River.
Great work environment
Professional atmosphere
Cons
The company is consensus driven to a fault. Can be frustrating.
It is my opinion that it culls older workers on a regular basis.
Advice to Senior Management
American Express has reinvented itself many times in the past. They may be too card centric to survive a payment process game changer.
Pros
Company has integrity, a great brand and terrific people. Leadership is invested in well-being of employees. Work-life balance is valued. Great development opportunities.
Cons
Large company can be slow moving.
Pros
Collaborative, good work-life balance. Great brand.
Cons
Political, not always a meritocracy, good people are let go.
Pros
Great vacation and benefits package
Cons
Often silo's structure - need greater cross division coordination
Pros
- Easy going for NY (depends on the department)
- Opportunity to move around in the company and do different things.
Cons
- Pay is not great.
- Lots of people working long hours doing pointless things.
- Sometimes the number of hours worked matters more then what you do.
- To advance it matters more how long you have been with the company rather then what you have done or how smart you are.
Advice to Senior Management
Recognize value and promote it. Way too many people in the company are being promoted based on talk rather then quality of work.
Pros
Fun, work/life balance, competent people, exciting, interesting work
Cons
Low pay, bad benefits, transparency makes you realize what you don't have
Advice to Senior Management
Higher pay
Pros

Cons

Amex is a great place to work, they truely value work life balence. you can work from home a few days a week, people respect your personal time. Management takes the time to talk with people, work hard play hard,
joined early this year and its one of the best places I have worked at
Cons
big company, have to work the system, but no really bad things to say, really enjoy working here
Advice to Senior Management
keep up the good work. most senior managers do take the time to meet with employees and I feel connected
Pros
Amex offers lots of flexibility with workload and schedules; ability to work remotely regularly. Convenient commuting location for new york city.
Cons
Very relationship oriented company, it can be challenging for new employees to establish networks. Generally not known for being innovative with technology.
Pros
Great, friendly people. Opportunities for advancement.
Cons
Large company, volatile business due to economic conditions
Advice to Senior Management
Keep doing what you are doing
