    Pros

There are super smart people who work here so you always feel like your peers will keep you on your toes Ina good way. The leadership team is strong and I do believe that Ken Chenault is one of the best CEOs out there. The company believes in work life balance and allows employees to work from home a few days a week. .

    Cons

Promotions are tough to come by. The company is very good at managing to the shareholder so layoffs occur with more frequency than one would like.

  3. Great place to work with a lot of smart people. The company invests heavily in its employees' career development.

    Pros

The company is going through a lot of change and looking to transform and change the way we deliver technology at AMerican Express. It's a great place to work but challenging at times as many folks do not like change.

    Cons

Lack of accountability and ownership from business groups, processes that sometimes make getting work done difficult, it's also hard to get promoted. Leadership changes frequently . LAck of clear business strategy in some areas.

    Pros

    Blue chip company, stellar reputation
    Never bored
    Flexible schedule

    Cons

    Constant turnover in upper management
Pay is on the low end of average
    Bureaucracy is Kafka-esque

    Advice to Management

C-Suite has been in place for too long, trade in consistent stock price with forward thinking culture

    Pros

Strong culture of values and character. Benefits are reasonable. Most leaders are fairly approachable and willing to listen

    Cons

Misalignment of leadership with no clear direction across the business units. Unwilling to invest in the critical tech upgrades needed to jettison the business into truly best in class performance

    Pros

Lots of opportunities for growth and willing to let people try new things without specialized experience. Encourages movement internally across business units and locations.

    Cons

Environment is political and large rounds of layoffs or reorganizations happen multiple times per year in some business units. Very slow decision making especially at senior levels.

    Advice to Management

Stop reorganizing so frequently and give the org structure a chance to work and to rebuild the Amex culture that is getting lost in the change

    Pros

Everyone is very easy going and gets along well with each other. There are some reputable names in leadership, coming from consulting or strong industry backgrounds.

    Cons

I was not a fan of the culture. It seems very laid back. On top of that, the company seems very network heavy. It seems difficult to move around to other areas or get promoted unless you have good rapport with a lot of people.

    Advice to Management

I think the company is being run fine, it's just not for me.

Smart people who are great to work with, some great inspiring directors and leaders (some, but not all unfortunately). Great work/life balance.

    Cons

Salary is low compared to other fin services companies in the industry.

    Advice to Management

In many cases, need stronger directors who are can develop their teams. Also need better pay and less repetitive and confusing re-orgs,.
