    With zero hesitation, I give Amex 5 stars!!

    Manager of Business Development (Current Employee)

    ProsI love my career here at American Express. Although it's a huge company I feel like it's a start up atmosphere. We are highly compensated for what we do, our brand sells itself, we get cars completely paid for, even personal miles. I love my leaders, they truly listen and care. You won't find a better company, not ever!!! If you can get in, get in here!!!

    ConsMedical & dental aren't the best I've seen, but the other bennies more than compensate. I just recently started to be concerned about my position with all the changes taking place, that is the only down side to working at your dream job, the fear of losing it!!!

    Advice to Senior ManagementI would just be more open to giving more freedom with expense accounts when it comes to sales people that need to represent our brand, not having the ability to pay for lunches isn't good.

    Great Company to Work For!

    Manager (Current Employee)
    London, England (UK)

    Pros* Great work/life balance, but comes in peaks and troughs often
    * Excellent brand on your CV
    * Great community and peers/seniors to develop yourself
    * Good benefits and over average remuneration
    * Truly global blue chip with a lot of opportunities abroad
    * Great office locations
    * Very flexible with home-working
    * Good holiday allowances

    Cons* Need to improve support technology, like expense management systems, PTO trackers, etc
    * Could use CRM better
    * Salaries are on the peak of the bell-curve (or just to the wrong side), is a driver in some good people leaving
    * Need to remove some of the technological systems that are out of date and take up time from field-staff's day
    * sometimes you get thrown in the deep end if you're a joiner
    * training is below par
    * difficult to find adequate cover for some roles when you need PTO

    Advice to Senior Management* remove some of the operational aspects of field roles and give them to other teams
    * Have a better support system for when staff leave/join/PTO
    * Improve transition process for staff that are leaving/joining
    * invest in better training (not necessarily more expensive training, this is not synonymous)

    Great Company

    Relationship Manager (Former Employee)
    Phoenix, AZ

    ProsGreat People and Benefits. Ability to promote within.

    ConsReview process like a bell curve, creates too much competitiveness in employees as they know there is only one or 2 people that can obtain an excellent rating per team each year. This creates people to step on toes, not just be the best that they can be.

    Advice to Senior ManagementDon't be quick to pigeon hole employees and judge because they are different. Diversity is key and the differences in people create great teams. Also change review process. There are other ways of rating someone's performance as the leadership side is very subjective.
