I have been working at American Express full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Benefits are good. Time and energy are put into training. Encourage continued education and participating in the community.

    Cons

Constantly moving from desk to desk. Resetting up just to get settled and move again. Not only can this be a hassle and unorganized but it takes away from our jobs. Pay is a big issue, the longer you have been with Amex the less pay you receive. An example of this is say you like the department you are in and have no interest in moving to another department, basically your pay from year to year will only increase slightly not even the cost of living. However if Amex hires new employees into your department they will be making at the very least $2.00 more an hour than the person there with knowledge and years of experience. More and more of our jobs are moving over to India.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make adjustments to department pay. Make it fair and equal through out the departments. Limit the amount of moving within the department. It will not only make employees comfortable but not waste time. Last, keep America working. Keep the jobs here in America.

I have been working at American Express full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Collaborative, good work-life balance, supportive leadership. Ample opportunity to move roles, functions.

    Cons

Cost-cutting in the U.S. Can be frustratingly consensus-driven - hard to make a decision. Year-end evaluations and promotions are very competitive.
