Pros
Great benefits. Decent salary. Generous vacation, personal and sick time. Flex schedule. Generous tuition reimbursment. Many training opportunities out of corporate HQ in Madison.
Cons
Upper management is duplicitious at best and provides poor leadership. Performance expectations are completely unrealistic. Fear of termination through intimidation seems to be the norm.rather than reward for performance this is the primary driver of many mangers . It is not uncommon for managers to be demoted or terminated, seemingly on a whim.unless they play the race card. Expectations change constantly. What's worse, there is little to no notice when they change.
I have been working for "the Company" for 10 years. When I first started it was great. But as time passes ditch digging seems to be the road to go.i have seen very talented workers be forced out due to intimidation..

Advice to Senior Management
learn to actually MANAGE. And I don't mean through fear or intimidation, try losing some of the dead weight managers in your phoenix office.they know who they are, you can usally find them on a golf course or ball game during company time rather then trying to help co workers.
Pros
The benefits package for employees are good.
Cons
The company tends to follow what other companies are doing and not innovative with new approaches to business.
Pros
Big three company, private, no shareholders to satisfy. Base salary plus commission until your commission exceeds salary. Great co-op for advertising.
Cons
Insurance is a did eat dog world, it's all about price when dealing with the major company's. Nobody wants to pay more to switch company's.
Advice to Senior Management
They run a tight ship, the only advice is to find out competitors rates and beat them!
Pros
They were very understanding and flexible wit time off for personal needs.
Cons
Some of the managers had god complexes.
Advice to Senior Management
Chill!!!
Pros
Pay is comparable to other companies. Although the commissions are not as good as they can be. Let's pump it up!
Cons
Senior leadership is great. They have a vision and are making progress in ensuring that the company has long term success
Advice to Senior Management
Have more training and we will be GREAT. Technology needs improvement but there is talk that things will change shortly
Pros
Flex schedule which allows you to have one week day off every other week. The benefits package was also top notch.
Cons
They decided to close their Schaumburg, IL. office and relocate to Peoria, IL. Most of the employees had been with the company 10 - 30 years and the average age was 40 - 65 yrs old. They said that they were moving due to the real estate costs, but we all knew that it was the human resources costs of carrying older employees and their families. They could move to Peoria, a college town and hire kids who would work for much less. While the benefits package was top notch, over time more and more money was deducted from employee checks.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't paint the sky as sunny and bright when you know that there are thunderstorms on the horizon. They were firing older employees to lessen the costs associated with severance pay prior to making the announcement that they were going to relocate.
Pros
Stable employment
Reasonable work hours
Good people
Cons
Company is a follower, not a leader
Aspires to be a great company but management holding it back due to resistance to change
Pros
Family friendly
Flexible work-schedule
Good working conditions (NHQ)
Cons
Slow to change
Decisions made based on internal politics, rather than objective business analysis.
Pros
Pay, benefits, co-workers and relatively stable work environment (except for Marketing)
Cons
Weak senior leadership, slow decision making and lack of accountability for executing action plans.
Advice to Senior Management
Bring in outside talent at the top.
Pros
Great benefits. Decent salary. Generous vacation, personal and sick time. Flex schedule. Generous tuition reimbursment. Many training opportunities out of corporate HQ in Madison.
Cons
Zero room for advancement. Minimal opportunity for professional growth. Once you're in a position, that's where you'll stay. You can apply for other positions and may even get a chance to interview, but odds are, if you're not out of Madison, you won't be selected. The company also gives the appearence of a patronage / croney system with positions created with specific people in mind. Very, very "clickish."
Upper management is duplicitious at best and provides poor leadership. One thing will be announced only to have the exact opposite happen. Performance expectations are completely unrealistic. Fear of termination rather than reward for performance is the primary employee driver. It is not uncommon for managers to be demoted or terminated, seemingly on a whim. Expectations change constantly. What's worse, there is little to no notice when they change.
I worked for "the Company" for 10 years. When I first started it was great. By the time I left, I couldn't get away quick enough... I stayed 8 years too long...
Advice to Senior Management
Yeah, learn to actually MANAGE. And I don't mean through fear or intimidation, but by inspiration and example. Lose the patronage system. And quit trying to be State Farm or Allstate. They're national companies that dwarf you. You're a regional insurer that would experience significant growth if you would quit micro managing your employees, treating your product like gold (ie trying to justify your non-competitive rates with lame excuses like "we're JD Powers No.1 service oriented insurance company!" - no one cares...) and move about 10 years into the future...
