    Pros

    - Great company resources, freedom, and perks.
    - Tight-knit company culture; amazing personalities & backgrounds to work with.
    - Lots of independence with how you want to formulate your internship experience.
    - An overall positive, encouraging atmosphere/environment.

    Cons

    - To gain valuable/marketable experience, you must definitely challenge yourself and figure out what you want to do. It's a fairly laid-back work environment, so nobody is going to grill you every day, so you should push yourself to make the most of it.
    - Work can be repetitive & petty if you don't pioneer your own project initiatives.

    Advice to Management

Management has changed since I worked there, but the first Dream Bank manager was absolutely AMAZING during my internship. She is an overall very kind, fun, driven person and I learned a lot from her that has continued to help me in my career. Couldn't have asked for better!

    Pros

    1) Flex hours are great
    2) You get to work with amazing people
    3) Relaxed atmosphere

    Cons

    1) Winter in Wisconsin
    2) Expensive area to live
    3) The matrix management is confusing at times

    Advice to Management

The upper management should pay an expert on software usage life cycles to explain to them that companies spin their wheels on a (roughly) 20 year cycle starting with making software in house, then buying "off the shelf" and eventually starting the cycle again...

    Pros

Great pay, excellent benefits, helpful co-workers

    Cons

You are not an individual, you are a results producing machine. If your numbers aren't great, you're out the door. Be prepared to force customers to use approved shops or get dinged for them exercising their right to choose. You are micromanaged to death here. So glad I got fired because if not, I would have quit anyway. Was promised a shift move after six months and was still working late shift after two years.

    Advice to Management

LISTEN TO YOUR EMPLOYEES -- they are stressed out and are unhappy

    Pros

Committed employees who give you the room to grow and advance your career with American Family. The Agent I worked for in the Madison area was great and very encouraging. I truly feel like your hard work gets noticed at AmFam. If it wasn't for my partner's job relocation I would have worked for the corporate office. Potentially 3 promotions within a 2 year span.

    Cons

Sometimes getting time off could be a hassle and you get an employee at corporate who could be more challenging to work with, but this was minor.

    Pros

Good work life balance, compensation is reasonable, great people who are very friendly and willing to teach. Open environment allows for collaboration. Small group allows for greater responsibility and learning opportunities.

    Cons

Corporate culture outside of division was questionable. Opportunities for growth are limited.

    Advice to Management

Certain divisions within the organization suffer from poor morale. Processes are a bit bureaucratic and could be streamlined.

    Pros

Company values, People, Culture, Benefits, Work schedule, Leadership, Incredible opportunities as an intern, Excellent contacts, Midwest values (hard work, family, etc.)

    Cons

Slow processes (big corporation), Frustrations with certain members of management, Timelines on deliverables are generally 6 months or longer, so it takes forever to see a project to fruition.

    Advice to Management

I think it's important to have a start-up attitude in order to contend with the online and get-insurance-quick companies that have entered into today's arena. A little more fluidity in social media would be excellent, and more advertising geared toward younger generations and/or multicultural populations would be preferable. This is such a fabulous company, and I think it would be a shame if it went by the wayside because of structural deficiencies. Make sure that doesn't happen!

    Pros

Love the culture, love the people, the management I worked for were the best. They always make sure we're comfortable and make sure we enjoy doing what we're doing. I can't ask for any other employers to be as great as the ones at American Family Insurance.

    Cons

The facilities are very confusing. I got lost and were late couple times to some of my meetings. It took me a while to finally find my way around.

    Advice to Management

What you guys are doing is great for the company. I can only speak from the I/S division, but you guys need to hire younger folks to join your division. No offense here, but the I/S division are getting older and you guys need to make the division feel younger again.

    Pros

Salary and Benefits. Most project teams are well organized.

    Cons

Management was disengaged in the day in day out operations of the department. Trying to manage up was difficult because of this and it was difficult to get results. Poor performers are tolerated, and not covering for them all the time brands you as not being a team player. Management in my division was slow to make decisions and missed many opportunities for improvement because of it.

    Advice to Management

    Don't tolerate poor management.
