    Pros

You got two breaks and a lunch.

    Cons

Call forecasters watched every move you made. If you had too many bathroom breaks they would run over and tell your manager about it (even if there was a medical reason for it)

Managers would give you positive feedback every month and then when it came annual review time, it was as if the prior conversations never happened. Awesome way to build morale!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Train your managers.

    Pros

Nice flex schedule and time off policy.

    Cons

State promote life balance for employees but not correct. Employees have high goals that are not achievable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to realize that in order to achieve sales needs to have employee satisfaction.

I worked at American Family Insurance

    Pros

Great company to work for, but all is based on your area.

    Cons

No benefits because you are an owner (small business) of your agency.
    Not in all 50 states.

I have been working at American Family Insurance full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

They have great benefits and reasonable pay. The time off policy is very generous.

    Cons

They are constantly changing something without complete testing or asking the people who do the job. Very frustrating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Throw off the conservative stance and get with the real world. You can't expect employees to stay when the "rules" change constantly.

Great Management and Great Place to work

    Cons

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at American Family Insurance full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits were good for long term employees

    Cons

Too many layers of management and stuck in the past culture makes it very political

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pare down the layers of management and move forward with a very clearly defined vision to guide
Leaving all to interpretation of multiple layers is very slow any stressful

    Cons

You do not get much trial experience.

I have been working at American Family Insurance full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I work for a single agent rather than a group, and I prefer it. It creates a more comfortable work environment while still spurning good competition. I feel like my agent supports me as much as I support them, knowing that policies will always get processed by one of us.

    Cons

It's a smaller office, which means long hours if we're swamped with work. I've put in late nights (as has my agent) to try and keep the office running.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you are going to set sales goals, make sure they are reachable for the small agent offices as well as the larger ones.

I have been working at American Family Insurance full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Well established 401K plan and company pension plan. Dedicated workforce, committed to excellence and customer experience, and providing a quality insurance product for our customers.

    Cons

Due to recent re-organizations, staffing has been reduced and amounts of work have drastically increased. Senior employees are being forced out and the climate is more of the same in the future. Leadership is on a squirrel hunt, not providing a clear direction for the future. While employee pay raises have been in the 1% o less range for the past few years, EVPs, Chief-officers, President & CEO increases have been in the range of 15-20%. Bonus structure for upper management are 18-20% of salary. The company is becoming increasingly top-heavy with management, and employees are left with long hours, lengthy to-do lists, and stressful conditions.
