    Pros

This is the best experience I had in retail when it comes to work life balance. And the discount is great if you love toys.

    Cons

Stores are very top heavy many many manages and few associates. When it's really not necessary. Ensure you are the extreme social type.

American Girl at Tysons Corner, VA is no longer a fun place to work. The Managers are the weak link!

I worked at American Girl full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The kids and the dolls make it bearable.

    Cons

Outdated rules and no leeway on tardiness for variable usually awful traffic in Tysons Corner.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Replace the Management!! From Store Manager, to Assistant Manager, to Department Heads. All the great Managers have left!

    Pros

Supervisors are cheerful, supportive and optimistic

    Cons

outdated technology requires LOTS of training

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Survey your order processors one week after training is done to see if the important issues are being covered. It well help redirect your efforts to more efficient training

I have been working at American Girl

    Pros

Powerful bonds with your coworkers, making a little girl's day, the polite, mature, and appreciative customers, a clean and beautiful work environment, the managers who problem solve and support you, a product discount if you're a fan. Decent pay for part time work.

    Cons

The entitled, immature, and appalling rude customers, getting stuck ringing at the register with long lines with no relief in sight, poor managers who do nothing to assist you, boredom while working off season and physical and mental exhaustion like no other during peak. Must work weekends. Not living wage pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be positive, be present, and don't be above ringing down lines at the register when the store is slammed.

I worked at American Girl part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Most of the upper management staff is really nice. It's a great atmosphere to come into everyday, even on the busiest days. Bad customer service is rare here and everyone is committed to their jobs.

    Cons

Not a lot of cons, somewhat good hours for a part time/seasonal position..

    -catty younger co-workers..
-favoritism shown between management and employees..someone who's been with the store longer literally won't get written up for making a mistake and you will..(if you're not bffs) with management I suppose.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

add more time to complete hairstyles
    And treat everyone equally.

I have been working at American Girl

    Pros

But, like in any any retail space, you have to sell and recommend everything in sight. Customer service comes second, regardless of what's said by others. System is also rigorous, if placed on a register make sure you pay attention. Lots to memorize. Other than this, place is good.

    Cons

    Written in Pros section, above.

    Pros

The environment and people around you are a good basis for a well rounded job atmosphere. The best thing about working at American Girl is that everyone is there to help you out and nice.

    Cons

Moving up or trying to do more does not sometimes help you. Only who they want to invest more time in gets better opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be a little more open to everyone having an equal opportunity to move up.
