I have been working at American Golf part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Scheduling is negotiable, low stress environment, people generally get along with one another and free meals while on shift. Reduced price for golf and gift shop purchases.

    Cons

Different parts of the club are in a constant state of disrepair. Nothing ever gets fixed timely. Lights out, equipment broken, and oftentimes is never replaced. Critical positions don't even exist such as a dishwasher, custodian, or maintenance professional.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ensure that the club is properly maintained and cleaned, hire people for critical positions.

I have been working at American Golf part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The members, free golf, discounted lunch

    Cons

Management, No benefits, no raises, no employee reviews.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compensate workers accordingly. Employees that did care about the job just get handed more and more responsibilities without being compensated. Staff more people. It felt as if all the "budget cuts" were for them to make more money.

I worked at American Golf full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Some very dedicated staff workers and managers

    Cons

Where do I start? American Golf can't get out of it's own way. They are stuck in some sort of 1970's business model and refuse to evolve - they do the same things again and again and can't see that they are not working. Before you improve things, you need to admit that they need improving.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up - it's 2014 - there was no balance whatsoever, just lie after lie after lie - the members treat everybody like door mats and the mgt. let's them because they are scared of the members. Advice: Support your staff, stand up to the membership, learn from your mistakes and discontinue the practice of repeating them. Safety and security for members and employees should ALWAYS come before profit - American Golf does not provide this safety and security - this is unforgivable. Corporate spends all their time covering their backside, because they have to. If the company were to be run with integrity, they would have far less turnover and be able to keep staff.

    Cons

Salary is a joke, high turnover because of it. Operations is dodgey.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop reaping the benefits for yourselves! It's an organization and everyone works hard - practice equality and respect employees to pay them way better.

I worked at American Golf full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Leadership positions are often offered to those with less work experience.
    You can move up quickly
You work at a golf course

    Cons

you work at a golf course
Upper Management will take the employees side always.
Compensation is weak by industry standards.
Upper Management tells you that you are lucky to have a job.
    Furlough

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your managers. 9/10 they tell you what is happening and you refuse to hear them out.
Make a choice, AGC tour or Furlough, don't do both. Silly to spend so much money on a rah rah weekend when you are asking all salaried employees to take 2 weeks off without pay. Tighten your belt before you punish your employees.
