This is one of the most unorganized and wasteful companies around.

I have been working at American Greetings part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Weekly paychecks. Can select the days to work.

    Cons

Horrible management team. They tell you one way to do the work and then later retract those instructions and add new ones that rarely make any sense. After working a year I still do not know what I am paid per hour. I was told one thing but have not been able to compute the hours at the salary I was quoted. They enforce direct deposit and we do not get a stub to see what we are being paid. All store revisions are very unorganized. We throw away perfectly good products on a regular basis because they don't want to store the seasonal products instead of donation to a needy organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees rarely hear any words of encouragement or any type of praise. We are always told what we do wrong but not ever praised for what we do right. Very low morale due to no positive feedback.

I have been working at American Greetings part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Love the flexibility to get my job done during the week. The training is great and if there's ever a question, my Territory Lead was always there with an answer.

    Cons

The plan-o-grams corporate send out are not always clear. They didn't always send enough product to complete the set the way it was designed. And for everyday product, restock for the vantage row is slow to come.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow more hours to complete projects.

    Pros

    Cons

the bosses up top have no idea how to keep up with technology or how to accept that someone working under them understands the world. Egos abound

I have been working at American Greetings full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Work/family/life balance is great. No one works all that hard. The benefits are expensive but decent.

    Cons

Lack of long-term strategy, weak senior management, lack of compelling career paths, and general inertia are problems. Mediocrity in many areas with some exceptions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need a more compelling and believable vision. Need more compelling career paths. Realize most people know senior folks only care about the $ at this point.

I worked at American Greetings full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The people / culture is pretty good. Nice mix of creative and business-oriented people. They develop their employees pretty well, which made this a great 1st job out of grad school for me. There is a sense of corporate pride.

    Cons

Nepotism at the highest levels, which sets a bad example for those of us not related who want to work our way up. A fair amount of corporate bureaucracy. Business relies on antiquated IT systems. (i.e. green text on the computer screens!) Pay is a little below average it seems, so top talent seems to leave frequently.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Eliminate nepotism at the top.
