I worked at American Greetings full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

I was part of the Interactive division of American Greetings where the atmosphere and the people were really nice, feeling very much like a family.

    Cons

After the management of AGI changed a few years ago, the energy changed too and the projects were less challenging. Even worse when AGI merged with the corporation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at American Greetings full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Creative environment, interesting content, fun coworkers! Lots of opportunities to be involved in projects outside of your role.

    Cons

Pay is not great. Procedures change frequently so you're always learning a new system or protocol, but bigger, more important issues take a long time to change. Some leadership changes need to be made.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Step up your pay scale to attract, and keep, top talent. Survey employees about manager satisfaction and then think hard about what they have to say and how things could be improved.

I have been working at American Greetings full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great work/life balance, co-workers who are collaborative and a joy to work with, immediate supervisors/managers who are truly engaged and willing to give opportunities for development in keeping with my interests and professional goals. Excellent place to get a range of experience working on all kinds of projects.

    Cons

They have gone through a number of layoffs over the last few years. The recent changes look promising that the company may be finding it's direction and structure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep with the recent focus on more communication and transparency.

I have been working at American Greetings full-time

    Pros

My colleagues are top-notch, and I've made lifetime freinds here -- in fact, most people say their coworkers are the reason they stick around!

Great amenities like a huge & fast cafeteria, on-site Starbucks, dry cleaner, half-price card & gift shop, and easy parking.

    Cons

The financial pressure associated with the recent (2013) privatization of the company has put the business into a frozen state... Job #1 has become "Make Money to Pay Back Loans."

The culture is slowly changing for the better, but some pockets of bad middle management remain.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

American Greeetings is a good place to work... but sadly it's obvious that it's a GREAT place to work only if you're within the "inner circle" of family and friends-of-family. The caste system is very visible, and it's a demotivator when it's apparent that rewards aren't necessarily given out on the basis of merit.

    I worked at American Greetings

    Pros

Set your own schedule, meeting and working with diverse employees and clients, strong corporate structure, company perks (company car/cell phone), relocation assistance

    Cons

Outside of ASIT program, not strong continuous training for AS...some geographic territories are too large (300+ accounts)...not all territories are the same, may take over territory that has major issues but only have a limited amount of time to fix.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure every new AS goes through the ASIT program
