I have been working at American Homes 4 Rent full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The office culture is very relaxed for the most part making it seem less like a corporate office. The compensation is relatively good for the type of work that is expected.

    Cons

There is no room for advancement within the company, therefore making it a very numb environment. Due to this there is no motivation to excel in the job.

I have been working at American Homes 4 Rent full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Base pay is ok. Some of the employees are helpful and great to work with.

    Cons

This company continues to make the wrong choices and is unbelievably unorganized. Employees are training employees, instead of management taking an active role in doing what they were hired for. Instead of promoting the employees who deserve it, they continue to promote those into supervisor and management roles who have no idea what they are doing, and supervisors that do not ensure the teams well-being. Unfortunately, they continue to promote those who are fraternizing with employees, who brag about smoking illegal substances, and those who only care about their high paychecks. Great employees are not recognized or rewarded for their hard work, but instead are used and thrown away. This is why this company continues to have a high turn around rate and why they continue to lose staff that care about the company. There's no room for advancement unless you are upper-management's favorite, or is "apart of the family". If the employees voice their concerns to upper-management, they are let go, shunned, or looked down upon. Upper-management cannot seem to tolerate those who have an opinion, stand up for themselves, or have an idea that might actually work. They let their pride and status get in the way. This is by far the most unprofessional company that i have ever encountered. I believe that the only way that this will change is if someone who is honest, truly genuine, knows the proper way to manage, and has no relations with upper management takes control.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Supervisors need to be properly trained or demoted. Promote those who deserve to be promoted, and have a education, but this means taking an active role in the daily work lives of your employees, and getting to know them. There needs to be more structure within the company's policies and procedures. Stop treating employees as if they are stupid because many of them have a wide range of knowledge that can significantly help the company. Listen to their ideas, criticism, and how they are feeling.

    Pros

reinstate you for real esate fees, benefits are OK and casual dress Friday.

    Cons

You will not be able to take a day off, so don't ask. They are growing too fast without getting proper help to support the growth. This creates a stressed enviornment because everyone's plate is on OVERFLOW and you cant take a day off -You will be expected to work close to 24/7days a week (10 hour days , plus weekends, including sundays and some holidays) .Don't beleive what they tell you upon offer, because it is all a lie anyways. The tenants are extremely unhappy due to maintenance not responding for days. Management is cruel and mean they will treat you like a dog. This was the worst work enviornment you will ever experience. Total disorganization. Not enough people to support tenants, no customer service skills.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat people better and you won't have so many people quit all the time. If people are stressed to the max, they won't perform as well. If people can't take a day off to take their children to the dentist, why would you want to work here? Work on family life balance more and you can do that by hirnig more people to support your growing business.

    Pros

The base pay is decent, and there are a lot of great people that make it easier to get by each day.

    Cons

The only way to advance in the company is by knowing someone. If you are looking to establish yourself within a company this is not the place to do it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide some career steps for your employees or the turnaround rate will continue to grow.

I have been working at American Homes 4 Rent full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The fact that it is a new company that is growing rapidly is one of the reasons I love working here. You can actually SEE the value you are adding. The culture is casual, open, and you really have a chance to get to know everyone (at least working in the Agoura office). Benefits (health, time off, etc) are very competitive, as well as the comp structure. I'm excited to see where this company goes, and I look forward to being a part of it.

    Cons

I wouldn't call it Cons necessarily, more like challenges in working here. It's all in how you look at it. I enjoy the fast-pace, high volume atmosphere. Processes aren't in place where they need to be, but that's why I'm working here - to PUT them in place! This environment may not be for everyone, but those who can manage their time, prioritize well, enjoy the start-up feel, and can handle change, will love it here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to communicate with employees and keep them in the loop. We love hearing about what's going on with the company.

    Pros

    Flexible schedule sometimes, great coworkers.

    Cons

Elite rich guys running company only think of themselves. They hire minimum-wage workers to run everything about the company that the rest the employees depend on. Local management takes care of their own race and religion while burying everyone else. Extremely burdensome workload. No complaints are heard. HR complaints are not anonymous.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to criticism and ideas. Just because we barely feed our families doesn't mean we're stupid.

I worked at American Homes 4 Rent full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Business casual attire; denim, sandals, tanks, and tees. (hardly business casual)

    Cons

The staff is poorly trained and management has no clue what they are doing. Supervisors confide and vent to own employees about other employees and coworkers. No specific training manual. Employees get in trouble for asking too many questions. Employees are expected to complete months of work within a days time. Employees let go when they bring their issues to management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Supervisors need real training. Employee time clocks would be helpful so employees are not accused of arriving late to work. There needs to be a clear policy about nepotism, fraternizing with employees, and keeping information about other employees confidential.

    Terrible management

I have been working at American Homes 4 Rent

    Pros

Casual dress work environment and that's about it.

    Cons

Terrible management. They seem to think they know what they are talking about when in fact they don't.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Most of the management is under one roof and yet they still can't communicate with one another and get everyone on the same page. Seems to be a bit unprofessional. Stop trying to promote the young and pretty. They are clueless and their ideas don't work. They are only getting inflated heads and no one appreciates it. It's actually quite laughable. They think they are important but really it's just management looking at your you know what.

I worked at American Homes 4 Rent full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Casual environment....jeans, snickers, head phones, flip flops.

    Cons

Bad management, very unorganized, no communication. Managers instead of talking to their employees they prefer to hear it, from other people that have nothing to do with that department.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please hire people with management skills & experience and an education. Hiring people just because you know them does not mean they qualify for the management position....just saying. Having a manager tell you more then once in a week, if you don't do your job we will find someone else to do it....reflects no job security and a very hostile environment. I feel very sad for the people still working there.
