Former Employee – worked at American Language School as a contractor for more than a year
Pros – Teaching- Your abilities to teach are trusted, and the management allows you an extensive amount of freedom in your methods.
Management- Very considerate and thoughtful. If you have a problem, they are quick to get back to you and willing assist as quickly as possible. Also, if there is a problem, it is handled professionally and involves YOUR side of the story as well.
Vacation- Many days of paid vacation, much more than I expected.
Hours- Not overworked.
Team- Everyone seemed very friendly who I worked with.
Cons – Moving- The only thing I can say negative was occasionally some people wanted to switch apartments because some were too small or cramped as is the Japanese style. (mine was great). However, they allow you to find your own place if you can manage, but you have to ask permission to move out.
Advice to Senior Management – You guys were wonderful, keep doing what your doing.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Current Employee – been working at American Language School
Pros – A ton of tactics and material sharing, class textbooks are avaliable, easily able to contact and talk with management, decent pay, upper management usually willing to help, subsidized housing, school managers usually have good English skills and are very helpful.
Cons – Schedual can be hectic, branch teachers often have to travel to different schools (the company will reimburse you at the end of the month, but it's a lot of train rides), sometimes they will give you a student who is either too young (3 year olds) or has no english ability at all, and should start with a Japanese English teacher
Advice to Senior Management – Try to cut down on branch teachers travel times (franchise teachers often only have one or two schools), contine the bi-monthly teacher meetings (they offer a lot of advice and give the teachers the ability to voice opinions), be better prepared for emergencies (earthquakes) and during these times make sure to inform teachers of what is going on

Former Employee – worked at American Language School
Pros – Flexible work schedule. Freedom to use your own methods and material. Textbooks available for lesson support. Easy going atmosphere with little pressure from management.
Cons – Very few materials outside of textbooks available for use and small budget to spend on supplies needed for effective lesson plans. No full time positions available. Tendency to favor customers' needs over those of employees. . . (NO MATTER WHAT). Scheduling of classes needs restructuring; days with 3 hours gaps and days with nine hours of continuous classes with no more than a 3 minute break.
Advice to Senior Management – Be there. Too often a problem arises that needs immediate attention with no one with authority available to help. Stricter enrollment policies, three year-olds belong in day care. Take a stance with the instructors when a student is obviously flawed. Empower instructors with some management decisions.
