I worked at American Management Services
Pros – Excellent communication within the company and a strong sense of community within the company. Offered several opportunities to learn and advance my career in the property management field.
Cons – There is a great deal of reporting. I didn't mind because I find weekly analysis of the property to be an aid in the process of running the business. If you do not like reporting or reading reports or understand what your job is, then this isn't the place for you.
Advice to Senior Management – I think the management has done a great job offering education and resources to their employees. This can only assist the company going forward. No matter how much people whine and complain about reporting, it is necessary. Without the system of checks and balances that are in place to ensure it is done many properties would likely fail.

I have been working at American Management Services
Pros – Love my position. Some supervisors micromanage but generally are open to suggestions and treat all respectfully. Coworkers are awesome to work with and work environment is usually fun. Human Resources Partner for the West Region is amazing. Investment Manager for our region is awesome, as well. Everyone in the corporate management team I've met is pretty down to earth and willing to listen, but not always willing to follow through. Possibly due to having too much on their plates.
Cons – Not very much room/opportunity for growth, training, and promotion. I've witnessed a lot of fantastic acts and people slip through the cracks. They offer trainings but not enough or sometimes just not good enough. Promotions are rare, from my experience. They should look into hiring and promoting from within, rather than surpassing able employees of their own who know the company well. There seems to be too much going on and not enough people to handle every situation, which causes a lack of communication and, many times, late responses/conclusions to fairly simple "no brainer" issues. I understand all managers have managers and need approvals, but sometimes own discretion and "executive decisions" are necessary. Too much is expected for too little compensation. Traditions and tactics are a bit old school and can use more modern tools. Noticeably understaffed, creating logistical issues and disabling staff to truly focus on main position assigned.
Advice to Senior Management – It would be much appreciated if they would look to your own family of companies for hiring and promotions. There are many dedicated, diligent team members who have a lot to share and are eager to move up with AMS.

I worked at American Management Services
Pros – Good pay
Coworkers pretty professional for the most part
Decent working conditions
Nice holiday parties
Cons – Management leads by intimidation
High Turnover - too much time spent training and hiring
Lack of professionalism at times by upper management
Disrespect for woman in management positions
People are treated like replaceable objects
Advice to Senior Management – Since it's a management consulting firm, this company does not apply any of its advice to their own company. They need a suggestion box (anonymous of course).
