I have been working at American Megatrends full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

AMI is a medium-sized global computer company located in Norcross Georgia. There are many people from other countries and cultures that all come to work here. It has a relaxed work environment and very knowledgeable and competent employees that work in both firmware and software computing products. 80% of the employees have engineering degrees or some background in computing. AMI has been around since 1985 and therefore is well known in the computer industry.

    Cons

The pay is not all that great. Once you have been here for several years you see that the raises are only keeping up with inflation and do not match the industry standards for compensation. You need to be pro-active in seeking advancement because there is not much room to advance.

I have been working at American Megatrends full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

People are very good for the most part and reasonable about work/life balance issues. Some of the nicest people I've ever worked with. I hate to say easygoing but under most circumstances it applies. parking is okay. Bonuses are minimal but fairly consistent. most managers are nice guys and don't make your life hell...most.

    Cons

sub-standard pay rates for the industry. poor management communication sometimes. only top level management staff can make simple (<$100) purchasing decisions. not a great location and certainly not modern, no 'amenities' to really speak of...small breakroom and no cafeteria. no training provided to speak of. Raises are cost of living only, not merit based. really improving yourself is not encouraged...."get the work done and make the customer happy" is the only mantra here. does not seem that much planning gets done, only fighting issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

up the pay about 10-15% to meet the modern averages for the kind of work done. get some attractive amenities; cafe, ping pong, pool table, anything. Modernize the work spaces a bit. basically, reinvest in the people and work environment. don't just do the minimum. how do you expect anyone who works for you to be enthusiastic about you, if you not enthusiastic about them? step into the 90's. (it's 2014)

I worked at American Megatrends full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Good money and benefits. That's it.

    Cons

Management in certain departments are extremely inappropriate, rude, and very "DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO." Also, if a family member has been rushed to the hospital in critical condition, make sure you schedule that early departure in advance cause you obviously know it's coming or you get in trouble. That is just an example of how micromanaged it is. Some of the statements from management are really childish and usually very ignorant, but mostly unexpected from someone in that position so it makes the work environment tense and uncomfortable. Oh and complete lack of career growth or potential. You move once and that's it, plus you don't learn anything to improve your career or add to it. It's just busy work chained to your desk with some close minded manager talking over you and interrupting. Great starting off point, but NOT worth the stay. Oh ALSO they agree to commission structures then the CEO just changes his mind and Management drags their feet on working it out. And they may stiff you, especially if you leave on your terms.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire the right people to manage people. Just cause they have been somewhere a long time, and don't fit anywhere else, throwing them into management creates a serious problem. If the situation continues people won't stay with the company
