I have been working at American Savings Bank full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Great benefits. Executives are very approachable and down to earth. Culture of mentoring and coaching. Like the way they treat employees, "you matter" is a great concept for every employee. The focus on being the best place to bank and work is good. I like the fun environment, casual dress code, the fact that I can call any executive with an idea any time. I like the IdeaBank.
Cons – Some of the mid-level managers didn't get the memo to be a great mentor & coach. Some employees don't have great bosses and their experience is different that others, but mostly good bosses around here. The management training should be better and they should weed out the bad managers quicker.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep training the managers. Everyone should have the same excitement as the corporate offices.

I have been working at American Savings Bank full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Majority of benefits start day 1.
Minimum 18 days of PTO starting day 1.
4% 401k match.
Discretionary profit sharing up to 4% of prior year salary.
Extremely low employee only health care premiums.
Cons – Little management movement (good and bad).
Pay is a little lower than avg for many positions in my opinion.
Still very silo'd.
Many changes are hard to implement.
Advice to Senior Management – A lot of great things have happened in the last 5-6 years. Keep it up!

I worked at American Savings Bank full-time
Pros – Great benefits, including getting your birthday off, generous time off and life/balance activities.
Cons – Your experience depends entirely on who you work for. There are some amazing managers and people at ASB even at the most senior levels. However, like in many places there are many who are not. Unfortunately, this also extends into the highest levels of the company. The CEO is a good man. But while the company talks a great talk, some other high level executives don't walk the walk but are able to hide it from him because people are afraid to speak out. If they do, they are gone.
Advice to Senior Management – Don't rely on what you are told by others. People are not going to be honest--not because they are dishonest people, but because they know what happens if they are.

Pros – One of Hawaii's Best places to work, they have continued to increase employee benefits and make the workplace fun through various events.
Cons – Cutting costs on some things resulted in reorgs and lower pay.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep thinking of the employees and rewarding them for hard work because the new programs are successful.

I worked at American Savings Bank full-time for less than a year
Pros – Everyone at Headquarters and the back office were extremely nice, respectful, encouraging, and professional! My first 2 weeks of training were surrounded by awesome people! You feel the so-called "culture" BUT it ends there!!! The Benefit package is great. OVERALL everything you hear at headquarters is GOOD and true.
Cons – LONG HOURS! And management on salary come in and out when they want but scheduled hourly employees 9-12 hr shifts! What happened to part-time positions?? There should be at least one slot open for the branches that are open late! It is too exhausting!!
The pay is HORRIBLE. People working at McDonald's get paid more! This bank is by far the worse paying bank i have heard of! I was put into a branch that closed at 7:00pm which meant i didn't get home until 8pm. We also worked weekends until 3 which weren't too bad but in order to make 40 hours a week you got scheduled to work 11-12 hr shifts during the week! I was scheduled to work 9 days without a day off and half way through it i sat in my bathroom in tears because i was so exhausted and the thought of being there for ONE more 11 hr shift was so depressing. My branch's Branch manager and the rest of the "long-term" gang were rude, constantly cursing and screaming at all the new tellers. I understand they have been there for more than one year and they are there all the time but i hated that they treated everyone like we all grew up together as siblings and they got to call everyone crude names and act like they were superior to us. No one respected them and of course they had at least one person quit a month. Countless attempts to contact HR and someone above the branch manager had been made by previous employees and some current with no affect. I talked to other tellers at other branches and their experiences were great! I guess it depends who you get stuck with and what you make of it. I personally did not like being interrupted and shooed around rudely. I walked in and had no remorse in not handing them a 2 weeks notice. You would think if the pay was good enough you would want to stick around and put up with some things.
Advice to Senior Management – Even if there is one complaint about upper management, things should be looked into. There should be a more open relationship with those above and beyond the branch. It felt like after we got hired, we were just thrown in the branch and forgotten. What happened to all those super happy corporate people? Also, are branch managers and Assistant Branch manager's given proper education on team leadership and team building? How about some proper etiquette with the employees NOT just with the customers? How about a warm "hello, good morning" to the person you have to work with for 9 hours? Employees are NOT quitting because the job is hard, they are quitting because of the lack of professionalism and acknowledgement from the people they work with!

I worked at American Savings Bank
Pros – good leadership
good hours if you want your weekends
good training
professional appearance
I worked in downtown so eating was convenient
Cons – Because it is downtown, it is super busy almost every single day
when I work there, they do not have chairs for employees. Supposedly it allows you to work faster, which I agree but it can get tiring after a long day, especially for woman with heels.
Advice to Senior Management – provide some chairs and expend the brand more, you need it because you have the customers.

I worked at American Savings Bank
Pros – the benefits are decent and always changing. most employees enjoy the casual business attire dress code. working hours are decent.
Cons – improve communication in all department areas. hire and promote the BEST people for the job. put a bigger focus on customer service rather than sales.
Advice to Senior Management – take time to talk with each employee about their thoughts, feelings, and ideas about the company, not just a selected few. most employees are too afraid to give any input, or think no one will listen to their ideas.

I worked at American Savings Bank
Pros – It seems that they give any warm body a job. Unfortunately, that also means there are many people who work for ASB that do very poor work. Management does nothing to screen poor prospects, and doesn't care how their team will mesh together. Many people came and went, which is something i expected from a retail or restaurant work environment, but not a financial environment. The culture of the company seems to be a bottomless pit of dispair. It felt like nobody really wanted to work there.
Cons – Management in my area was terrible. My super visor and coworkers were great though.
Advice to Senior Management – Promote the right people, not the people that suck up.

I have been working at American Savings Bank
Pros – The co workers were friendly and helpful.
Good benefits and retirement plans.
I provides an opportunity for tellers to learn.
Cons – It all depends on the management. If they are helpful and supportive, your work life will be great. If they are terrible, condescending and rude then that is what the environment will be like.
Also, sales is a con. The bank would like the teller to sell sell sell, even if it the customer does not need it.
Advice to Senior Management – My advice would be to be respectful of others and treat each person fairly. Also, increase communication between staff and to try and point out positives equally or more than negatives.
