I have been working at American Tower full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Fast-paced environment, ability to make significant contributions within all levels of the organization.

    Cons

Improvement and effectiveness opportunities not fully leveraged within global executive business leader ranks to come together to drive synergies across markets ... which will become more important to really achieve the strategic goals and targets of American Tower ...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to really ensure the internal teams are focused on the most important program and project initiatives of the company. Put the thoughtful planning and decision making processes in place now while riding the good times ... make the tough decisions to execute on fewer, high priorities rather than too many lesser ones.

    Pros

The people that are not in management are a pleasure to work with

    Cons

MANAGEMENT........ Management micro manages .... they do not listen or communicate with their staff.... They jump to conclusions without asking questions..... They have unreasonable expectations for a skeleton crew.... They have no clue what the people do that they manage or how to do the position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire managers that have done the jobs in their department so that they know how things are supposed to go.

Great Financials but IT needs some work

    Pros

The folks at this company really like what they do. That's reflected in the financials. They are going through a complete overhaul so right now may be unstable, but on the whole it's a great company to showcase your skills.

    Cons

If you are looking for the latest and greatest and most cutting edge technology, you won't find it here. With many legacy applications and too much work for the IT staff on hand, there is not a lot of room for brand new applications. The business has unreal expectations of IT given staffing levels. There are a lot of contractors so sometimes feels like the co has a revolving door.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Assess who the key players are and make sure you hold onto them. Though the apps aren't the most cutting edge, there's some really great opportunities there for talented folks who just want the recognition for the work/ideas they contribute.

I have been working at American Tower full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Paid time off; Reimbursement for gym memberships; Great people to work with. Thats about it, as I really dont have a lot of great things to say about the company.

    Cons

Management is the worse. They have no idea what they are doing. They micromanage all the time, and try to send emails over telling you what to do after you already got the email the first time, just so they feel like they are doing something, and managing. Guess they want to feel important.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop micromanaging and treat your peers with some respect, and not like they are below you.

    Pros

The pay is good. You can listen to music all day.

    Cons

They are hiring only temps and it is really hard to get hired. Poor Management. No training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When your company motto is say what you mean and do what you say. You really shouldn't lie to people.

    Pros

ATC is growing quickly and there is plenty of business opportunity. Great team-oriented environment, and Execs do listen, even if they don't make the changes you were hoping for. Excellent benefits, better than what I've had at much larger companies.

    Cons

Pay is sub-standard, in my book, for sales people. It seems most of the sales people at ATC are previous Project Managers, and most are content with lower pay. The better sales people hit a cap on commissions that is way too low.

I have been working at American Tower full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great entry level company, but not the ideal company for anyone interested in longevity with a organization. If you want to bulid your wireless acumen, it is am excellent company to work for to help you launch to other companies within the wireless industry.

    Cons

There are very few opportunities for advancement once you hit middle management. Merit increases are inadequate and upper management opportunities along with any type of career development either does not exist or is always a "work in progress".

Great benefits, great executive level leadership, not the greatest supervisory leadership.

I worked at American Tower full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are the best. Executive management seems to be trying to move in the right direction.

    Cons

Too many people who are allowed to cut down co-workers instead of being concerned with doing a better job and equipping others. It seems as though it's even rewarded. Not enough training and not enough involvement from managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more attention to getting people the tools they need to do a good job. Listen and ask all employees about why things are not going the way you would like them to go. You have wolves in sheeps clothing among you and they are going to make the company lose money in the long run by running off quality employees.

I have been working at American Tower full-time

    Pros

very good benefits including payments for wellness, 401k match. The base pay is low, but the equity/stock is great, and can keep people there for many years. The company is very successful. Access to good training opportunities.

    Cons

This is the most oppressive company I have ever worked. Nobody has autonomy and any decision needs to go through many many layers of approval - the company operates like they have 50,000 employees, while they only less than 3,000 employees. It's not uncommon to find bosses yelling at the employees. Anyone seriously looking to work at American Tower should be very careful to ask the right questions through the interview process. ATC is truly a "big brother" type of company. Hopefully ATC is making changes to address the massive turnover and issues they see.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    actually listen to your employees.
