    Pros

This year, ATC was named one of the best medium-sized companies in the U.S and they truly are that. ATC is a very inclusive, collaborative environment. They promote a work-life balance and the pay is competitive. The HR department is very supportive and is there to help employees succeed.

    Cons

Career opportunities are limited but as ATC continues growing there will be more opportunities.

    Pros

401k match and pension are a nice combination.

    Cons

People say one thing and then do another. Most employees act as if they want to do what is needed to improve, but then constantly neglected making improvements. Employees spend more time in meetings then actually accomplishing anything.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If leadership gives someone responsibility, don't allow them to go behind those employees backs and sabotage what they're trying to do. Leadership could accomplish more if they spent more time in the office working when everyone else does.

    Pros

Profit Sharing is the only PRO.

    Cons

Country club like atmosphere. Friends/neighbors promote each other. If you don't have an Engineering or Law degree your are in a dead end job.

Other Departments sabotage your vendor negotiations present & future.

If you dont have an Engineering Degree. You are not an expert.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review which departments have the highest turn over. Drill down into the details a person left. Next look at who the Department Manager is and you should be able to solve turn over issues.

I worked at American Transmission full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefit of working for a monopoly with a guaranteed profit is that you will never want for resources. You will have the best phones, best office supplies, best computers, and never need to worry about travel costs. You get to work with really smart people. Great salary and above average health care. Still has a company funded pension.

    Cons

Because middle management (directors and vice presidents) does not have to worry about making earnings, they are busy scheming, and making alliances, and building powerbases, and keeping lower level employees down. It is like the show Survivor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The reason the company is not growing like it did before is that the directors and vice presidents are more worried about themselves and not about the company. Get rid of all directors and vice presidents and move up the managers that have been doing all of the work.

    Pros

Due smaller company and higher turnaround, you probably going to move up faster and become lead of the functional faster.

    Cons

Due to higher rate of return from FERC, there is an incentive to spend as much money as possible and do the costly project s without any regard to impact on the electric rate payers.

    I worked at American Transmission

    Pros

I only worked here for three months as a summer intern, but overall it was a favorable experience. The people here are friendly, professional, hard working, and helpful. The office atmosphere is very comfortable and nobody watches over shoulder. They put a lot of faith in their employees and I for the most part, the employees delivered.

    Cons

I was surprised I wasn't offered a job after I graduated, but its a tough economy with hundreds of qualified candidates. Although it isn't difficult to get to know the people you work with everyday, a lot of people seem to busy to get to know coworkers unless they work with them. Overall though, I enjoyed working here and would recommend it to anyone who is hardworking and independent, but also wants a good work-life balance.
