Pros
Working as a valet at American Valet was a good gig during my breaks from University. They treated us all well and if you are motivated you can make good money. The more you worked and the more respect you built, would put you at more lucrative restaurants.
Cons
I mean it's valeting, so there are the obvious things like lack of career advancement and all that, but hey, it wasn't supposed to be a career.
Advice to Senior Management
Good job. I look back at my time as a valet with fondness.
Pros
Easy job
Decent pay for just parking cars
Some cool people to work with.
Paid in cash- no waiting 2 weeks for checks
Cons
Very clickish- getting posted to good accounts is almost entirely based on popularity and who you know, rather than actual performance. It also takes a while to work your way up in the company as well.
-have to deal with lazy new valets who would be easier to just fire on the spot, because it's going to happen eventually anyway.
-too hot in the summer
-will kill whatever social life you might have.
Advice to Senior Management
Offer more performance based incentives
Have more contact with Clients- often times the accounts I was working at had people who didn't even realize that they had a valet service that day.
Pros
Very good pay if stationed at popular location.
Time off is easy to come by if you can find people to cover your shifts.
Good college jobs (nights are a must).
Cons
Advancement is limited to head valet, or managing your valet stand.
It is necessary to work nights at every location.
Advice to Senior Management
Nothing, when the economy was good, they were hiring regularly and gaining employees on a regular basis. Good place to work.
Pros
Easy Job, low responsibilities, easy money, Very good for students but don't expect much more then a paycheck.
Cons
No promotion, Good old boys network, They don't know where they want to go in the future. Always be worried about a company that asks you to bring your own twenty dollars for a piss test. That should reflect the type of talent they attract. No benefits to speak of and is a family ran business and it shows in the fact that only family members are in high levels of management.
Advice to Senior Management
Ask yourself why you were losing accounts when the economy was going so well?
