    Pros

The company offers decent compensation and benefits. The tuition reimbursement process is easy to use and the reimbursements are paid quickly.

    Cons

There seems to be a lack of focus at times. Also, there are quite a lot of restructures and realignments. It's difficult to keep track of who is handling certain functions.

    Advice to Management

Be sure to listen to your employees and bring them in on decisions regarding realignments. The employees are the ones on the front lines and have a direct impact on the business.

    Pros

Benefits are good everything else stinks.

    Cons

Unsafe environment, safety is more for show than to protect employees. Favoritism is rampant. Very disorganized. Management spend too much time look at spreadsheets and not enough time looking at what is really going on.

If you like to kiss butt this is the place for you.

    Pros

Good benefits. Nationwide career movement. Career advancement. Good safety training. Pay is pretty good. Have new vehicles for the field workers to drive.

    Cons

Decisions are made by someone hours and hours away who has never done your job. They micromanage...you have to detail every minute of your day. They hold grudges

    Advice to Management

Loosen the tie and give the workers more freedom.

My experience at American Water was very stressful, due to unattainable goals company placed on employees.

    Pros

Insurance and benefits, pay, and ease to advance in the company.

    Cons

Being able to get everything done that is required in time limit they place on you, and still have it be a one call resolution like they want.

    Advice to Management

Be more available to your employees when they need you, and be more willing to take escalated calls, and worry more about how call is handled, regardless of the time frame the call takes.

Focused on the short term - stock price and dividend growth. Unpleasant culture.

    Pros

The benefits are fair. It is a good place for someone looking gain experience in the water industry.

    Cons

Work-life balance is terrible. The company is solely focused on inflating the stock price and dividend growth. They are reducing head counts and budgets. The remaining employees are left to pick up the slack and work harder. The company discourages overtime unless you're a salaried employee. Then they don't care how late you have to work as long as your work is completed.
It is becoming very difficult to meet our financial goals because they are constantly changing. It is hard to hit a moving target. Our bonuses and increases are shrinking, while the executive team reaps enormous rewards in salary, bonuses, and stock options.
The culture in Indiana is very bad. The feeling of job security does not exist. The vice-president has exhibited clear nepotism in his hiring practices. He uses intimidation as his management style.
The leadership constantly talks about safety but they commit no resources towards it.
There are many behavior/ethics/conduct/human resources policies in place but the company routinely disregards their own written policies.

    Advice to Management

The recent culture survey was a very weak method to gauge employee attitudes. If you really are concerned, then create an anonymous way for employees to share their thoughts. The majority will not share their concerns because they feel like their jobs will be in jeopardy.
    Recruit more qualified managers.

Used be be a good company years ago

    Cons

Horrible management, long hours, dis-respect for employees and management is a big click full of a lot of lies These managers in finance are brutal. From Accounts Payable , Cash and Accounting, just unethical practices. They have ruined this company and are forcing out the pension people. Upper management, CEO, CFO should get awakened, but they wont. Corporate greed set in. I am looking to leave, it is such a farce,
