    I worked at AmericanWest Bancorporation full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Great pay, bonus structure is competitive with other banks in the area. Great training programs, spare no expense to train their employees.

    Cons

    Senior leadership made ALL decisions. As a Branch Manager, I would need to request 4-5 Senior Leadership signatures to hire a part time 20 hour to replace a 40 hour who left. Very poor technology left people spending 5+ hours per day creating reports that should be auto populated by a computer, like any other bank their size. Communication was very poor, took months to find out goals and objectives.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Too much control over your bank does not allow any Branch Managers or Regional Managers to "run their business". There is a difference between "checks and balances" and complete control over every moving piece. If you trust people to put them in leadership roles, allow them to lead without needing your signatures on everything they do.

    -Joke around the branches, "I cant wait until I need the CEO's signature to order pens"

    very negative, no one even knew I was being hired or what my responsibilities were, took 2 weeks to even get on computer

    Nothing, very out of date software, environment, sales culture, people, no communication with co workers, took 2 weeks to even get access to computer system

    Wanting to grow to provide more locations for customers

    Senior management doesn't communicate well with each other and the information getting passed down the chain is diluted.

    Learn how to communicate with each other with the goal in mind of helping both sides of the bank, commercial and residential.
