I have been working at Amerigroup full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Brand new office, up-to-date technology, in the business of helping people while saving the State money on it's Medicaid program.

    Cons

Little to no control over processes as most everything is handled by a "team" at the Corporate office. President is a micro-manager who has poor business etiquette and only trusts a few within the local leadership team. VERY POOR raises, even if you are considered a "top performer."

    Pros

The pay is excellent and the co-workers and peers are exceptionally well educated.. Get along with all employed...

    Cons

Don't care about the well being and health of their employee and very unreasonable expectations dictated by leadership with lttle or no actual experience.. Let the provider talk to associates any kind of way ...

I have been working at Amerigroup full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

No shortage of work so you will never be bored; Great work environment, filled with highly intelligent and hard-working people. Benefits are also very good.

    Cons

There are some growing pains following the merger with WLP. At least on the Government Business side, the departments can seem under-staffed... many people work very long hours.

I have been working at Amerigroup full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Large, nice pay, nice work environment

    Cons

OVERWORK and unrealistic expectations, and HORRIBLE life balance issues

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your skilled employees and stop listening to yourself ONLY. They only care about quantity, making more money and could care less about life balance as long as your goals are met. You push back, they'll tell you really quickly theres a line of people waiting to do what you wont.

I worked at Amerigroup as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

Incentives are encourgaing, benefits are fitting and training is personal and good for growth.

    Cons

HR recruiters, coordinators are horrible. They appear to have a interest in their job but not a passion, they will bring you on-board and not communicate, continue to send you on wild chase for answers, they don't involved themselves. Many are not familiar with the job screening process or care to know about who htey bring on-board. Why do you have them, they are immature, unprofessional, and their attire with jeans, t-shirts and graphic tee are so unprofessional for a HR team. They are your first impression and often times their tone is aggreessive with people that is unacceptable behavoir.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Norfolk HR staff can not work without in-house management. They are not accustom to virtual management. They need professional ettiquette training, customer service and organization development as well as proper manners in terms how to communicate with their colleagues, work as team, know the definition of "team" and destroy the clicks within the office. The office environment is "toxic and hostile" they make people uncomfortable, they have done things as a team to alleniate people purposely. I highly recommned WellPoint re-structure the entire team, this course of action needs to happen soon.

Removal of the mentailty "not my job" attitude but learn how to work collectively to help one another with all the changes they are being introduce being acquire by WellPoint.

    Pros

Amerigroup gives alot of incentives. Promotion quickly.

    Cons

You're given too many different answers protocal, policy & procedure to met criteria. And the staff get pentalized when even the supervisors do not really know what to do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find out the correct way to do each state with each procedure and make sure all supervisors is saying the same thing.

I have been working at Amerigroup full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great overall company. Pays well above average compared to other companies locally. Good benefits.

    Cons

Team leaders are in it for themselves. Not genuine with their subordinates. Review process is just to show that paperwork was done, not truly evaluating the person's capabilities. Favoritism definitely exists. Cronies of management go up faster in the ladder. Also, lots of inefficient systems with overlapping functions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change review process so it would truly evaluate a person's accomplishments.
