Pros
lots of vacation time. Flexible work schedule in some departments
Cons
Extremely hierarchical. Very difficult to grow professionally
Pros
Good pto. Room to move up, they promote from within.
Cons
Can be stuffy at times.
Advice to Senior Management
Push more decision making down the ladder.
Pros
It is satisfying to truly help families plan for their future and achieve their goals, Can be a great career, Being your own boss
Cons
Long hours, limited alternative investment options
Advice to Senior Management
more exposure for the company
Pros
My work is challenging and I enjoy how much self-direction I have. The compensation is fair though employee satisfaction has declined b/c the company continues to ramp down benefits and has started charging employees for certain things that used to be free.
Cons
Company is generally not supportive of work-life balance. There are really no opportunities for alternate work arrangements in my area, resulting in employee burn-out and reduced loyalty.
Advice to Senior Management
The company has been nickel and diming the employee base but compensation and perks for upper management are egregiously high.
Pros
A company with clear headed management that creates an empowering and motivating environment that encourages employees to contribute to the company's bottom line.
Cons
Just like in any company, not all the awesome ideas proposed by the management are taken to heart by employees...
Pros
No ceiling on your income. If you're motivated and you can handle the heat, plenty of opportunity to make a very good living.
Cons
What have you done for me lately, mentality. You can knock it out of the ball park for three straight quarters, have one bad quarter and you're constantly reminded of how you're not achieving.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire less but more proven people. They tend to hire as many people as they can and just wait to see which ones stick. Not uncommon to go from 60 people in the office to 30 in a matter of days. Only to ratchet back up to 60 in a few months.
Pros
Ameriprise is very "well-run". Focus on quality work and the customer are more than just lip service
Cons
Compensation structure is bad. Zero transparency to wages when almost all professional "individual-contributors" are in the same job band.
Too much work and little reward
Advice to Senior Management
It is time to start adding back more staff and improving compensation. Stop hiding behind market reference zones than nobody can see.
Pros
great experience, great company, great benefits, has the potential to make a lot of money if you put in the time
Cons
long-hours and not much home office support is weak. Lots of changes without realizing what the financial advisors think is best
Advice to Senior Management
I would suggest that management sticks with one plan and listens to what the majority of its producers want and think is best for their clients
Pros
Stock price is main focus. By knowing this, as an employee, it makes it easier to understand how decisions are made that may seem disconnected.
Cons
Work across departments is not easy due to the lack of sofisticated technologies supporting remote meetings. Using a phone for most communications is not the best way to create a team environment. The Technology team out of Minneapolis has some very smart people but have a hard time managing younger staff memebers.
Advice to Senior Management
Invest in more colaborative tools and recommend that the Technology teams take advantage of this service.
Pros
Competitive pay
A lot of overtime
Leads provided
Cons
Sleazy coworkers
Limited opportunities
No room for creativity or being individualistic
Advice to Senior Management
Take a deeper look at the current practices and ask yourself is it realy helping the customer
