I have been working at Ameriprise full-time

    Pros

Constantly growing and training on the latest technology. Keep systems current and up to date.

    Cons

Having to learn the latest technology and keep up with the day to day tasks. Sometimes technology doesn't work as planned and you have to improvise with clients to get your job completed.

    Advice to Management

Call times sometimes could be faster when calling HO.

I have been working at Ameriprise full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The employees that I work with on a day to day interactions are really fun and very talented. The work hours are very flexible and we can work from home as needed. Excellent compensation and benefits.

    Cons

Very top heavy in leadership. Outsource data centers make it very interesting to do our jobs. Employees are micro-managed by their leadership. Top down management philosophy and employees are not engaged in decision making. Leadership would rather listen to consultants instead of listening to their own employees.

    Advice to Management

Ameriprise pride themselves by hiring great talents but leadership refuse to let their employees do their best. That is why great talents are walking out the door. Only the mediocre employees stay beyond 5 years.

I worked at Ameriprise full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Wonderful place to start a career in finance. Great benefits, abundant paid time off, education reimbursement - Nice downtown location.

    Cons

Corporate politics, lack of transparency and terrible senior management. There are many lateral positions within the company that create great opportunities to learn new skills. However, there is very little room for advancement at a certain point unless you know how to brown-nose, back stab and tow the corporate line.

    Advice to Management

Encourage staff to grow within the company and corp office. Listen to staff to help them grow in their roles and within the company. Transparent leadership is the best type of leadership especially in decision making.

I worked at Ameriprise (More than a year)

    Pros

Great opportunity to photograph big events for one of the top financial company in San Francisco.

    Cons

The financial world is definitely different than art and design field, the vibe is different; however, it was still a great opportunity to be apart of something big.

    Advice to Management

Keep the events going, it is a great way to net work for all attendees.

I worked at Ameriprise (Less than a year)

    Pros

Really great people to work with. My boss was fantastic. I some fun and larger projects.

    Cons

The computer they gave me was old and slow, which made it hard to work quickly. Change is slow and difficult for adopting current practices, but change can still happen with care and diligence. My office was small and temporary. I was treated differently because I was a contractor.

    Advice to Management

Make sure IT combs through the computers before handing them off to the contractors to make sure they are operating at a good speed.

    Pros

Ameriprise has one of the best benefit plans out there. After reading benefits at other financial companies, Ameriprise is well on top.

    Cons

The political environment at the senior levels makes it a dysfunctional environment unless you have the right leader who knows how to maneuver their way around the politics.

    Advice to Management

Be good to your loyal employees.
