Pros – They do have benefits for part-timers (even if they're not that great), and they are pretty flexible in schedules to accommodate school and family.
Cons – Since the British management came in in 2000, the place has gone majorly downhill. They show a lot of disrespect to employees and are EXTREMELY unaccommodating to given realistic shift start and end times. Sometimes you may have to stay hours late without notice (which you're never rewarded or appreciated it for), but God forbid, if you clock in 5 seconds late, you are severely punished without leniency. Throwing up or or having an asthma attack and the EMTs determine you need to go home and you're punished (rigid attendance point system). They expect employees to come to work in EXTREME hazardous winter weather conditions (like when they tell you not to leave your house or you risk death), and will send you home immediately due to no customers. They have an open-door policy, but it is extremely difficult to get to who you want to speak to, and when you do - they are usually condescending and act you're like beneath them. They have a lot of propaganda scattered around employee parts of the casino on how great they are and how much they care about their employees, but continue to show a strong sense of disrespect to them through they're action. We have a dining room in the back, and slowly but surely they cut back costs so that they kept removing people's favorite foods one by one. They give you insurance if you're a part-timer, but it's pretty terrible and lots of people end up with $700 bills for a routine check-up. They also have you walk to your car in the dark late at night without much light or security. They just don't show a lot of respect to their employees.
Advice to Senior Management – Show greater care to your employees and also to your customers. I constantly hear valid customer complaints about how Ameristar treats them with disrespect and I tend to agree.

Pros – Good pay for no experience necessary, in my department anyway. Fun atmosphere when you first begin your job. Lively atmosphere.
Cons – There is not much room for moving up. Management often plays favorites at this location when it comes to promotions.
Advice to Senior Management – Offer more pay to employees. We are the lowest paying casino in the area in table games. Always have been for the past 16 years from what I hear.

Pros – It was good to experience the many cultures that work at Ameristar.
Cons – 50+ hour work weeks (managers in other departments worked 40), limited time off given, comps taken away, incompetency of upper management, worked managers during recession to the point of physical exhaustion, and attitude toward human capital went from good to cruel.
Advice to Senior Management – Bring back more full time employees. Went from 90/10 FT/PT to 55/45, and hire more managers. I worked in a room that had five managers a couple of years ago and had to go it alone for six weeks while managing another venue.

Pros – Ameristar provides an atmosphere in which all would love. Not only are we their employees, but we are a family. The relationships with the guests are excellent. We do sometimes have problems, but we are a team and we work through them. That's what it's all about. That's why I love my job so much, and that's why I look forward to coming to work each day. Ameristar is my home away from home.
Cons – The only downsides that I can see for some about working at Ameristar, is working on Christmas and New Year's. Most people want to spend all day with their families. I look at it as if I have 2 families to spend time with. To some of our guest, we are their families, and they are their no matter what day it is. Personally, I love working on holidays because the atmosphere is just a little bit sweeter.
Advice to Senior Management – I think that our leadership team is doing a great job. Although it's hard to please everyone at the same time, they try their hardest to make us all happy. That's what I like about working for Ameristar, to those over us, we are not just their employees. They show care, passion, and concern and will help us in any way that they can, to make sure that our problems are solved and we are smiling!!

Pros – Used to be a great place to work. Has good benefits and the employee dining area is very nice.
Cons – New management does not care about anything but impressing corporate . You can tell when corporate is coming in, because all the big wigs are out and about. They let go of good people and do not care about what we think. Hopefully all the issues come out on the team member satisfaction, if not I think that there will be a union in there pretty soon.
Advice to Senior Management – Get your act together, before it is too late.

Pros – At Ameristar you get a chance to meet alot of people. If you're in school its a very good place to start networking. Its also just an all around fun job. You're litterally playing games 8 - 10 hours a day and you get to see alot of beautiful and friendly people. Its almost like getting paid to play at work.
Cons – The hours were not pleasing, but it is the Entertainment Industry so the hours are made when they need you. Personal weekends are basically no more, the casino recieves its highest activity during weekends so of course they will need every dealer.
Advice to Senior Management – I would just say to continue to give the dealers positive and negative feedback. Cut back on the Micro-management, even though its a casino industry and security must be set at High Alert. Try to allow dealers to branch out and develop their own way of dealing while staying within the guidelines OF COURSE.

I worked at Ameristar Casinos
Pros – The people are great to work with. Plus there is no like days. Each day is full of surprises. There is a lot of room to grow here IF you are like by the powers that be. Team members love working with each other and they do great if you ask for information. The team members there act like family and treat each other as such.
Cons – The communication is really bad. They need to treat the staff better and with more respect. Their current job cutting is uncalled for if they did their jobs right in the first place. Plus after they cut all those jobs. They put more strain on the non hourly employees that ARE EXPECTED/REQUIRED to work 50+ hrs a week. There is no balance between work/life. They also need to quit asking for feedback and then turn anything negative away as it never was said. They really love yes men. Plus the will cut jobs and hours before the spend wisely when they order things.
Advice to Senior Management – Start opening your eyes. This coming team member survey will be mean unfortunately. The way you have treated team members is disrespectful and disappointing. The conditions have degraded so much in the past year it places us back to a place that is worse than when i started. The companty could have saved more if they would have started at the top of the tree and started pruning downward.
