I have been working at Amgen full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Pays well and great benefits. 401K and vacation are generous.

    Cons

Confusing place to work. Overly demanding on the competent folks, leaving the incompetent to do very little. Little to no opportunity for promotion, particularly when widely known, far-below-average staff are consistently promoted based on age, race and gender to fulfill quotas.

    Pros

Amgen has fantastic people, uses innovative technologies, is constantly trying to improve, and has a strong ethical base from which it helps as many patients as possible. I have nothing bad to say about the company.

    Cons

    Challenging environment - very busy

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember your staff that helped get yo9u where you are today - do not become obsessed with the bottom line

    Pros

The benefits are very good. The pay is very good as well. The front line management is hit or miss.

    Cons

The Amgen Values are heavily emphasized, however, senior management seems have a do as I say not as I do approach.

I have been working at Amgen full-time

    Pros

Incredibly intelligent workforce, ability to make a difference to others by delivering important medicines, good pay and benefits

    Cons

Lack of career development, and poor decision making ability of management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to make timely decisions, and execute upon those decisions. Being risk-adverse is not always the 'right' choice

I learned a lot but felt that the job pool in the US is relatively stagnant (at least from the bottom up approach).

I worked at Amgen as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

    - I learned a lot
    - I worked with some great people
    - Excellent work/life balance

    Cons

    - Not enough oversight on corporate initiatives
    - Moving production facilities overseas cuts down on available jobs in the US

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

New initiatives for increased efficiency are definitely good but they need to fit together better (i.e. one access portal for all efficiency programs and shared metrics).

I worked at Amgen full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits, work life balance, culture. They have a very laid back culture where as long as you got your job done, everything was great. Lots of people riding their bikes into work.

    Cons

Limited opportunity for growth, at least in CO as they have been ramping down production there for the last number of years. 24/7 facilities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure not to lose sight of your employees development.
