Pros
Great benefits and wonderful people to work with
Cons
If you don't have the support of upper management it will get you no where
Advice to Senior Management
Stop, think, and listen to your staff!
Pros
Good resources and environment to work.
Cons
Bad leadership and very heavy organizational structure
Advice to Senior Management
The leadership should consider to reduce the number of layers within the organization.
Pros
Great benefits and compensation
Excellent facilities
Cons
Little work-life balance
Unfair workload apportionment
Pros
Great benefits!
401k:
5% immediately vested (0 contribution required)
100% match - immediate vested (up to 5%)
Paid Facilities Shutdown - 2 weeks per year (July 4th & Xmas)
State of the art gym
Cons
Meetings...too many meetings resulting in loss of efficiency. Nothing gets done because associates are constantly engaged in meetings.
Pros
high salary, amazing benefits (best in any industry hands down), great vacation time and 401K match. Excellent products and 3 different divisions to sell in.
Cons
Sales data is not reported accurately and therefore, you get screwed on your bonus. Management won't acknowledge sales data reporting issues. Amgen puts quotas on # of people who must get a bad year end review, even if it's not warranted.
Advice to Senior Management
too much micromanagement of sales reps. Just give us a POA and let us sell!!! Amgen say's they do that.....but they don't
Pros
Benefits - they are great
Pay - pretty good compaired to industry
Buildings and Campus are pretty cool
Cons
Inexperienced Management - they are educated but 9 out of 10 lack practical interpersonal skills. The decision making process (if there is one) is the weakest I have ever seen and the concensus building that occurs is merely an excuse for no one to be held accountable. Adminttedly the environment is complex with global considerations, but senior leadership represents the "smartest group of dumb people" I have ever run accross.
Advice to Senior Management
Measure performance, get your head out of the clouds, be practical, and stop thinking you are all scientists, most of you aren't.
Pros
Great benefits (including 2 weeks of shut down)
Solid teamwork
Good work/life balance
Cons
Slow growth and low attrition limit career options
Management plays chess with individual careers
Advice to Senior Management
Due to slow growth and flat organizational structure, come up with a plan to keep senior managers (happy)
Pros
-adequate vacation time, 2 shutdowns, sick time
-attendance at one conference and training per employee/per year
-Gorgeous campus with amazing views of the mountains creating a relaxing outdoor lunch hour
-NICE gym onsite
-Great Team Environment
-Values based company
-Lots of opportunity to move around the company and "go where you can grow"
-The Benefits are TOP notch!
Cons
-Amgen hires the best talent but many of the managers need to be trained extensively on how to lead others or manage people
-Company has a "Work from home" or "Telecommuting" benefit that is promoted but clearly not open to all employees. Depending on your management, you may not be permitted to partake in this great option as some frown at those who work remotely even if you produce quality work. It has been said by some that promotional opportunities could be limited should your boss not truly support your desire to work remotely.
Advice to Senior Management
None
Pros
Ive found that they are very Pro-employer. They always take the time to listen to the employee and find ways to help them when a situation presents itself.
Cons
Tough competetion in order to get an interview/ saturated market for few job placements.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep doing great work. The standards of Amgen area above par. Excellent work/great facilities and benefits. Id highly recommend anyone to do theire best to get a job here.
Pros
I feel that Amgen still has an incredible reputation in the industry and beyond. The benefits and great and there is opportunity to advance.
Cons
The company has changed a lot since I joined it over four years ago. It had a small pharma/biotech feel, that has all changed
Advice to Senior Management
The is so much focus on compliance that sales reps are afraid of doing their jobs. The reps are very professional that they hire, but are sometimes treated with no trust
