Advice to Senior Management

Pros
Benifits, Work Life Balance, compensation
Cons
Top Heavy, No empowerment, slow decision making
Pros
Great benefits
Week off in the summer and winter
Generous 401K matching
Flexible work arrangement options (telecommuting, etc.)
Beautiful campus with top notch gym
Cons
Top heavy, too many managers, not enough individual contributors
Culture more like that of a big pharma company than a biotech, i.e. slow, bureaucratic
Certain departments are political - not conducive to matrix org.
Advice to Senior Management
Too many middle managers. Hire more individual contributors to do the work or convert middle managers into individual contributors. Middle managers do not communicate effectively with each other and do not work together as a unified team. Matrix org. is not working in an environment where lines are drawn in the sand between the company and its previous acquisitions and between the various sites.
Pros
Amgen has a very professional enviroment for research and development of bio pharmaceutical treatments. Very good at employee training and development.
Cons
As amgen is a much bigger company now, there are defeciencies in decision making and there are unavoidable politics in the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Not much to say except try to keep the professional scientific enviroment within this company and try to minimize defeciencies.
Pros
the benefits are competitive, pay is fair, development opportunities.
Cons
first line management is un-profesional and work load is un-organize.
Advice to Senior Management
be more people oriented
