Pros
Excellent location, competitive pay, very family oriented, accommodating of alternate lifestyles, health conscious, willing to invest in its employees, very enjoyable
Cons
Didn't get a tremendous opportunity for in-house review of my skills, performance or training. More emphasis on sampling different industries for interns would be appreciated.
Advice to Senior Management
Communicate large decisions (including corporate restructuring, new avenues for revenue growth, etc.) directly to the employees and allow input to educate decision making.
Pros
-Friendly work environment that promotes learning and innovation
-Knowledgeable colleagues
-Flexible work hours (you can come in early and leave early, as long as you work 8 hours or more)
Cons
-The groups in R&D are divided, each group is responsible for just that task
-Work can get repetitive, and large scale productions can be tiring
Pros
Good people doing good work. The benefits are really good as will as the onsite perks (gym, day care, cafeterias, car wash, etc.). People generally seem happy.
Cons
Not a small start-up biotech company anymore. Very heavy with layers and layers management. It is hard to get a decision made without multiple levels of people feeling they need to give input.
Pros
Good compensation. Great benefits. Nice work environment.
Cons
Work you like a dog. Insignificant recognition for work performed.
Advice to Senior Management
Lessen the gap between executives and workers. A company is not all about shareholder values. Sometime the best growth ideas come from those in the trenches doing the work.
Pros
Relatively better total compensation comparing to other pharma or biotech companies at similar size. Nice campus and facility. Good weather of the location. Good living environment with safe community and nice school.
Cons
There is too much politics. People in most of the departments are not very open-minded, not friendly, and unhappy. Upper management has no confidence on their own decision as well as others'.
Pros
Ample vacation time and an understanding and respect for the reality that employees have a personal life in addition to work life
Cons
Not the best place to develop a career, but a good place to earn a paycheck and feel good about your work.
Advice to Senior Management
Look from within to find And promote up management. There are a lot of really talented, effective people who get looked over.
Pros
Fast pace, if you love to learn new stuff this is the place. sharpen your troubleshooting skills
Cons
You work all the time day , night and weekends.
Advice to Senior Management
New CEO in May, lets see what happens....
Pros
Large stable company, nice people, great working atmosphere. Treated great by co-workers & management, especially for being a temp worker.
Cons
Contractors have no benefits or security. Can be let go at any time. Large bureaucracy to get things you need, like computer, access to ERP System(taking 7 weeks).
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work.
Pros
Amgen is a great company that is in the business of putting patients first and treating grievous illness. It's offers great benefits and a friendly environment to work in. And, it's a fun place to work!
Cons
The economy has been tough and Amgen is not immune to its effects. Downsizing is common in these times but employees are compensated for their time here.
Advice to Senior Management
Times are tough for everyone and we're all struggling, try and boost the morale by recognizing certain employees from time to time and throw a celebration or two to let us know you still care about your employees.
Pros
Very competitive compensation packages. Nice facilities.
Cons
Poor leadership from the top on down. Relied too much on a few Blockbusters now nearing Patent expiry, current pipeline prospects overstated. Too much uncertainty going forward. Unclear vision. Too many projects Dead in the Water allowed to go forward with costly Staff. Undermanned. Limited advancement opportunities - who you know more important than what you know.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus. Cut out fat at the top who are burning up needed financial resources. Company grew too fast, spent too much on IP that didn't bare fruit, now is the time to make corrections and cuts. Closure of a Research Site in Seattle or San Francisco would be a good step forward.
