ProsThey provide good salary and benefit

ConsWorking load is never compensate with pay. Certain favorite people can do very little and get all the credits. If you "accidentally" offend the wrong person at high level, they know very well how to set you up and ruin your career.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagers should be opened minded to accept opinions and listen to lower level people. They should respect people with different race and background instead of treating people unfair, such as push certain people work hard and then transfer credit to certain people. All promotion should be transparent.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

ProsLeaders in implementing new technologies and business strategies. Benefits are very good and they offer a lot of employee programs to support health and family. (Unfortunately, everyone is so over worked they can't benefit from these programs, but at least the company is making them available.)

ConsMore time is spent on corporate spin than on actually developing and manufacturing drugs. The politics have overwhelmed the work that is being done. Every bit of data is massaged and presented in presentations and more time is actually spent on colors and charts than on the actual data that went into the reports. So much time is spent "talking" about the data, the message behind the data is actually missing.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt's not ALL about the shareholders. Put more focus on development and manufacturing. Elevate those within the company and be open to contrary opinions. Appreciate that dissonance creates value. Bring back Gordon Binder as a consultant to assist with identifying new opportunities that can grow Amgen beyond financial positioning.

ProsHealthcare options are good. Compensation and welcome packages attracktive if salary/position is over 100K. A group of heroes from different areas effectivelly run the company while others do not lift their own weight. A powerful and thorough evaluation system with 360 feedback, not used properly and wasted.

ConsA layoff/hiring cycle occurred too fast, catching the company off guard. Culture lost and drive for excellence is tied to some metric developed yearly without enough study. No long term planning. Management is subddued to fear and decisions are made solely on ---"the boss said so"---. Innovation is acquired via purchases, no longer an internal development program as a stronghold. Directors and upper administrators are disconnected and growth to stockholders has been non-existing for more than ten years.

Advice to Senior ManagementA charismatic leadership change shall bring the culture, direction and values back, lost during the cost reduction era of the current leadership.

ProsThere are some outstanding sales reps. The benefits are also good. Other that those I truly can not think of any reason why someone would want to work there.

ConsAmgen is the most unhealthy work environment I have ever been in. The management team often lacks experience in managing people.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart conducting exit interviews and you'll soon learn the real truth! People are leaving for no other reason than they want to work for a company that recognizes contributions and has realistic expectations of it's employees.

Former Employee – worked at Amgen

ProsLarge company = great amenities on campus, good salary and benefits

ConsManagement is TERRIBLE. In my business unit management was completely incompetent. They were not qualified in the area they were leading, had no vision, no strategy & only talked about the issues, but put no plans in place. A total of about 8 people ruined my experience there. They played a nasty game of politics/empire building.

Advice to Senior Managementstick to what you know. try relying on the professionals you hired! Take a hard look at yourself and stop hiding behind alot of talk. do something.

ProsGreat benefits and salary on industry average. Hang in there as the options around T.O are extremely limited if you plan to stay in this industry and you don't want to relocate or commute long distances

ConsToo many inappropriately promoted Exec Directors and Directors. Promotions confuse great individual contributor skills with ability to manage others. Much fierce internal competition. Who you report to really matters here. High percentage of really sub-standard support staff and associates.

Advice to Senior ManagementEmployees see CEO as have two sets of standards. One for himself and then the Amgen Values
