I have been working at Amgen full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Beautiful campus, good pay and benefits, great relocation benefits, a young company that tends toward forward thinking

    Cons

No job security - continual reductions in force and job insecurity. A lot of positions are being contracted out, I would guess at least 50% of the work force at the Thousand Oaks campus are contracted employees. Work life balance can be hard to achieve - the more positions lost, the more we are expected to "do more with less", but no assistance or guidance on how to make it happen is given, just an ever increasing work load.Upper management sheds work to direct reports and can often give little guidance/have unrealistic expectations

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You are losing value added employees because of the constant uncertainty/instability. Restructuring the company is a good idea, but the way it is being done will result in a great cost.

I have been working at Amgen full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Compensation/benefits are good, used to have great people to work with.

    Cons

Micro Management and top heavy. Too many EVPs/Directors to name. little to no professional growth possible anymore. Too much bureaucracy, decision making heads, no growth and constant looking over your back

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try thinning the herd from the top, not enough people to do the work but way too many who think they should decide who does it.

Incredibly great internship! Well charted out project, truly knowledgeable colleagues and a great work environment.
    - Collaborative work culture
    - Wonderful work/life balance

No specific cons, really. The Thousand Oaks location is huge and that maybe a con for some,if working at a large office campus is not your preference. But overall, great work environment!

    Pros

People: Smart, inquiring, caring, committed. You learn something new every day, some of it better than sci-fi.
Benefits. This company takes care of its own. Support staff like HR, Comp, Payroll give an unbelievable level of individual support for a company this size.
    Cost discipline.

    Cons

Sense of instability: "What's next?" Some staff concerned that the company is trying to move TOO fast...

Former Employee - Project Manager in Thousand Oaks, CA

I worked at Amgen full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The campus in Thousand Oaks is without question, beautiful and the area a great place to live. The overall benefits are what you would expect from a large corporate employer with added on campus perks. There was a time when Amgen attracted talented people and many are still there, so one is mostly surrounded by smart folks.

    Cons

The culture is intense, and that is no understatement. The hierarchy is like no other within the industry, very much a top down organization focused on the bottom line.
