    Pros

It is a very good company that supports it's employees to develop a great professional career path.

    Cons

I can't really think of anything that I would personally change about this wonderful company that has given me such a great opportunity.

    Advice to Management

Please continue to have and share open communication with all levels of the workforce. It is greatly appreciated.

Without that infuriating pattern of massive layoffs, Amgen would be a perfect, or at least a near-perfect employer.

    Pros

Everything you can think of that's good and that an employer should have, this company has in abundance. Except, that is, the things mentioned in the Cons section below. It is a great pity, as otherwise it would be a dream workplace for many - just as it was about ten years ago. I recommend this company only if you want to add Amgen experience in your resume and enjoy it for as long as you are given a chance to, not if you plan to stay there long-term.

    Cons

Not promoting all people who deserve it. Low transparency of senior management. And did I mention layoffs? Actually, there have been three of them: 2007, 2011, and 2014-15 (still in progress). It is a terribly stressing situation, waiting to see if the axe is going to fall; whoever works there right now shouldn't be envied - at least not that much. Again, recommended only if you want to add Amgen experience in your resume, not if you plan to stay there for a long time.

    Advice to Management

Stop the layoffs and become once again a company who puts employees and their well-being before anything else, simply because the employees are the company, not the CEO or the shareholders. How can there be a creative and productive work atmosphere when everybody wonders if they are going to be the next one to go??? (And this is NOT a rhetorical question.)

    Pros

Benefits, established Biotech company with leading edge research and development organization. Strong culture in the past for ensuring Quality.

    Cons

Impact of layoffs means company is losing some of its historical knowledge-base and significant impact to moral throughout the organization.Almost total focus on the bottom line and return to shareholders, no longer on patient-first and do the right thing. Very risk-adverse.

    Advice to Management

Invest in strategic pipe-line, take more risk.

    Pros

Pay was some of the best in the industry. Never told something was too expensive in terms of procurement within research

    Cons

Lots of backstabbing and very gossipy environment. Management seemed to stubborn and micromanaged each employee beyond what is reasonable

    Advice to Management

Follow the science, Run experiments and let the data decide the fate of projects. An increased emphasis on safety is necessary

    Pros

There is always new equipment to learn. There is usually money to do all experiments without worry. Since it was a big campus there was usually someone who could lend you ingredients. My colleagues were very smart and would teach what they knew. Generous layoff package, but lots of money wasted when items could have been sent to people who would need them.

    Cons

Stress. There was stress about layoffs, little understanding on experiment planning and length from Management. Many perks were stopped at satellite sites, but not at the Mother-ship. The decision making process what shielded from the average employee. Gossip was rampant.

    Advice to Management

Have a better way to communicate the "why" of your decisions. When sending memos to scientists you must realize they will ask why. Also sending out a canned response will not work. Please stop punishing people for asking questions.

    Pros

401k and onsite daycare are top notch

    Cons

It's not what you know but who that matters for your career advancement. No work life balance. The Amgen values are meaningless words. People are afraid to speak up because they don't want to be victims in the inevitable next RIF.

    Advice to Management

Go back to your mission and values and see how far you've left them behind in your quest to increase shareholder value.
