I worked at Amgen full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Numerous benefits and perks for employees. There is an on-site cafeteria, starbucks, gym all for employee use. The time off is also stellar you get 1 week off at Christmas and another week at Independence Day as well as 3 weeks of vacation for a total of 5 weeks off. Very nice work environment. Very nice coworkers. One very big perk is a totally casual dress code.

    Cons

Working with Scientists who may not really know what you do. There is not a career path for Administrative Assistant.

    Pros

Management has their ears open, huge opportunities for people with skills, time when major changes are happening

    Cons

Uncertainty about business need for individual groups. Looming possibility of benefits being re-aligned to pharma business norms.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stock price is a huge indicator of management effectiveness, but we still want to primarily serve patients.

    Pros

Highly educated and motivated staff. Nicest bunch of people you will ever meet.

    Cons

Constant management turnover which frequently brings pointless change and churn. Senior management seems to want change before issues and status quo are understood.

I have been working at Amgen full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good opportunities; good management; great benefits 401(k), time off. Good diversity and overall great place to work

    Cons

Company is getting lean; workload is intense; company going through difficult times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is core of people who are getting the work done day after day. Spend the time to find out who they are and reward them. There are many people who are just riding on the backs of people who are getting the work done and building their resumes without actually contributing, but extracting significant mileage and benefits from the company.
If you continue to ignore the core of employees who continue to get the job done, it will eventually not be there and company will enter a downward spiral that will be difficult to recover from.
We are at a important inflection point in 2014 and ignoring the above fact will take the company on a downward trajectory.

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Thousand Oaks, CA
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Thousand Oaks, CA

I worked at Amgen full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great Benefits: Match 401K, Summer and Winter Shutdown, Stock Options for permanent employees, good health care plans and paid leave of absence
Working in Teams: A pleasure working with the most intelligent, hardworking, and willingness to take risk team members. Best team experience I've had in the industry

    Cons

The company is shifting to more and more contingent workers and driving out or laying off the experienced workforce. There will be limited career opportunities unless you are critical hire. The workload has increased significantly and prioritization communications are slow in getting to line managers. Moral is poor as workforce waits for next RIF. Organization is in free fall waiting for new business process to be rolled out across the organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Empowers teams to make decision and provided your support until you figure out new business process.

    Neutral Outlook
