    Excellent internship program

Summer Intern (Former Employee) Thousand Oaks, CA

ProsSummer internship was an excellent opportunity to explore the pharmaceutical industry. We were each assigned summer projects which we presented upon the end of our 3 months. This paid internship also includes summer housing, car rental, gym membership, and fun extracurricular events (surfing, baseball games, kayaking, etc.). Many opportunities to network with executive level employees . Excellent Executive (C-Level) Speaker Series.

ConsNone. After completing the summer internship program, many interns were presented with full-time offers.

    Excellent internship experience

Undergrad Finance Intern (Current Employee) Thousand Oaks, CA

ProsGreat people, great benefits, entire campus is closed for 1 week for 4th of July, wonderful learning experiences and mentors who really want to help.

Gym, food, services (dry-cleaning, rental cars, etc.) all on campus!

ConsSomewhat far away and in its own little bubble

Advice to Senior ManagementGive people within company the ability to rise through the ranks instead of constantly hiring from the outside and demoralizing morale of long-time employees

    Important products, tough environment

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Thousand Oaks, CA

ProsCompany's mission to support those grievously ill is important ... the products really help patients.

ConsPeople insensitivity - little to no investment in human capital of any substance. very hierarchical

Advice to Senior ManagementAnnounce staff reductions - do it and get it over with. The anxiety is tough on everyone

Very good people and company structure, most IT related work has been outsourced.

IT Support (Former Employee) Thousand Oaks, CA

ProsMany software and hardware positions to apply for internally if you have a Bachelors degree. IT jobs through contracting agencies can be very good employment (if your department does not get outsourced).

ConsAmgen is still undergoing layoffs, so do not expect long term employment.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire quality people and provide some permanent benefits for your IT functions instead of going for the lowest bidding contracting agency.

    Good place for doing science

Senior Scientist (Current Employee) Thousand Oaks, CA

ProsCorporate value #1 is "Be Science-Based" and for the most part it is not just lip-service. Very good compensation, health, and 401k plans. Lots of vacation with 2 weeks official shut-down in addition to personal vacation allotment. Upper management team seems really excellent since new CEO.

ConsBig organization where sometimes the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing. Corporate emphasis on improving decision-making still has a way to go. Too many meetings.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe sure to keep "Be Science-Based" at the forefront. Otherwise, keep pushing the decision-making improvements.
