    Satisfactory Student Jobs

I have been working at Amherst College part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I'm a grader and a tutor for economics department here. Very flexible hours, a lot of guidance, and very decent salary. I have also worked as Facilities during the summer, and also in the alumni programs. It's a very good opportunity for me to talk to the Alums and hear their stories.

    Cons

Might be tough to balance academic load and doing these jobs, and also balancing all other aspects as a student. But having said that, the flexibility given helps a lot. Sometimes it may be daunting to talk to an Alum, but all you need is some practice and courage! Academic departments are sometimes not too supportive of our efforts to seek out jobs in the real world.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Probably more guidance would help. The College is trying their best to connect students to alums, but I feel more opportunities to connect and talk to them wouldn't hurt. The academic departments also could have been more supportive of these attempts.

    Pros

The culture of Amherst College is progressive and supportive of all employees. Interacting with students at the college was always enjoyable and entertaining.

I have been working at Amherst College part-time

    Pros

Individuals employed by the college are intelligent, fun, and well-connected. While getting in can prove to be difficult, once you have worked in the AC system there is room to advance your career from within.

    Cons

Not a ton of diversity of thought on campus, as it is an elite liberal arts school and many who work there have a similar mindset.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep promoting from within as it builds a stronger sense of community.

  11.

I have been working at Amherst College

    Pros

Amherst seriously cares about their reputation as a highly-selective institution and thus has a high standard of service in its administrative roles.

    Cons

The atmosphere in offices on campus can be a little uptight

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please try not to take out your stress on those who work under you.
