Pros
Learn Collections, multitask learn ways to improve as a person and different customer experiences.
Cons
Cannot have any outside relationships with co-workers.No outside breaks. No time for family.
Pros
good pay. however you will have no life.
Cons
always hiring because they are always firing. work long hours, no sick time, work every day first week of the month. benefits stink. district managers and hr don't care about you unless you are in their click.
Advice to Senior Management
take away some of the control of district managers. listen to your employees and don't assume everyone else is wrong.
Pros
The money is fairly comparable to other companies, however no one has had a annual or cost of living increase in the last 5yrs I worked there. My co-workers within the branch were a great bunch of people and I wish them well.
Cons
Even though you have vacation time accrued, it is considered an inconvenience to take that time. There is no sick time accrued so if you are sick even with a doctor's note it comes out of your vacation time. There is a lot of discrimination in terms of advancement; if the district manager doesn't like you, no matter how posotive your annual reviews are, you can forget a promotion or even a pat on the back.
Advice to Senior Management
The district managers have way too much autonomy and its a breeding ground for frustration and there is no loyalty between the company and the employees.
Pros
- Paid is good ( Newbie starts at $12 - $14)
- You can get promoted FAST
- Always hiring , Always open new stores
- Paid lunch hour
Cons
- Locked office
- No Friday off
- Difficult to get vacation approved
Advice to Senior Management
Customers are not always right. Should listen to your employees, sometimes.
Pros
Good pay, funny thing is that money is not happiness!! Thats why your employees keep leaving!
Cons
Long hours
Locked up
No "lunch" time
"FAMILY TIME" impossible
Hard to get vacation time approved
If you are not in the "click", you are screwed
Open every holiday
The HR department is a joke
Unfairness about promotions
Advice to Senior Management
Stop the clicks!
HR is a joke!
Show your employees you care!!!!!
Pros
Fellow Employess, a few Branch Managers do an excellent job, customers for the most are friendly, some bonus programs were very good
Cons
A few Branch Managers are lazy ant not very smart, never ever having a complete weekend off, the constant threat of termination
Advice to Senior Management
Need to give Managers the opportunity to manage their stores, have to give a weekend{Saturday & Sunday} off at least once a quarter-this is the biggest problem Amscot has!!! Upper Management and Office Staff have weekends off- why not all employees.
Pros
laid back atmosphere, nice people to work with
Cons
training is horrible! it's only cuz i have done it 4 or 5 years that i have figured out the rules. it is scary how many tax returns that are probably done incorrect as new tax preparers work by themselves in the beginning as it is slow.
Advice to Senior Management
more thorough and intense training!!!! it has gotten better over the years but it still is not good. half the people leading the sessions dont know that much more themselves. lastly, design a commission scale that is acheiveable. $8 an hour is ok for a second job, but i have yet in 5 years to meet someone who has made commission as a preparer and for some people that is their only job.
Pros
Above average pay for teller position
Opportunity for advancement
Overtime Available
Clear expectations
Job Security
Willing to Train
Education
Gift Cards for meeting Incentives
Cons
Profit Driven to the point of Greed, Don't care about the well being of the customers.
Little to No time for breaks, even for lunch on a 12 hour shift
Spend a lot of time on the phone - performing Collections
No set schedule, varies every week 7am-2pm, 10am-11pm, 6pm-12midnight
Advice to Senior Management
Think about creating products that actually help our customers financial needs, rather than products such as the Amscot Card and Cash Advances that are detrimental to their financial well being. The majority of the customers misuse the Cash Advance program and rely upon it which is sad to witness on a daily basis.
Pros
Great friendships with coworkers
Training
Once notice was given, management was concerned as to why, but never did anything to prevent it.
Cons
Customers
No advancement
Dreaded going to work
No set schedule
Advice to Senior Management
Thinking the employees were nobodies
You were just a number
Pros
The only reasons to work for Amscot are that they pay well, and that they do promote from within.
Cons
Amscot will use and abuse you. They make it very difficult to take vacations as the first week of each month is blacked out as well as any weeks that include a holiday. I have worked on Christmas for the last four years straight. They will hold out bonuses as carrots, but they will use any excuse to deny you that bonus once it is earned. There is no sick time or personal time off. In four years and nine months with the company I never once missed a day of work-- I couldn't afford to miss a day's pay! My branch manager (called a branch leader) went on maternity leave for four months during which time I worked as the acting branch manager. Today, two weeks exactly from the date she returned from leave, I was fired. The reason given was "performance issues" however I have not had any negative feedback from management this year. There was no warning, and they did the firing over the telephone! That is what hard work and loyalty will get you at Amscot.
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to think of employees as people rather than as assets. Management needs to learn the meaning of the word integrity.
