Former Employee – worked at Amylin Pharmaceuticals full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – The one thing that Amylin had was the upper-hand at peptide-derived therapeutics and existing intellectual property. Safety for their drugs was a great advantage over the competition.
Cons – Very little attention to career-building for the individual, and the company sorely lacked inclusiveness among inter-departmental functions. I witnessed a lot of back-stabbing, contempt for others, and lack of teamwork. Transparency by upper-management made it difficult to trust the future of the company.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Current Employee – been working at Amylin Pharmaceuticals full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – People are not working, they are waiting to be bought, very low morale, easy get by,
Cons – Too much politics. Incompetent people are promoted just b/c their bosses want higher title direct reports..........
Advice to Senior Management – More real work, less politics.......
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Current Employee – been working at Amylin Pharmaceuticals full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Great coworkers and direct management. Team members are like a family. Freedom in day to day work.
Cons – Too many people waste their time whining about management, surfing the internet, and being unproductive. For example, the sales force spends all their time on Cafepharma, acting like entitled princesses.
Advice to Senior Management – Well, it's a little late in the game to give advice...

Current Employee – been working at Amylin Pharmaceuticals full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Some wonderful people, here and there. Opportunitits come up and occasionally you get a chance to contribute.
Cons – Its only for your own benefit, as all contributions are towards the invariably poorly chosen direction of teh company. So many departments are backwaters, run by political appointees with no merit. Its a wonder that the company is still standing consdering how pooor the vision is.
Advice to Senior Management – You really need to check your hubris. Its stifling at many levels.

Former Employee – worked at Amylin Pharmaceuticals
Pros – Good work/life balance, Good colleagues, Nice city to work in and a great area. Probably will be bought out soon so don't expect a long term position at this point.
Cons – Poor decisions made by management makes it likely that company will be sold in near future. Company trying to save money so bonuses and raises and promotions are slim and difficult to obtain.

Former Employee – worked at Amylin Pharmaceuticals
Pros – The people are the best, lots of interdisciplinary cooperation, very smart and inovative research. Immediate management very supportive and forward looking.
Cons – Leveling (downgrading) of our titles a few years ago was just the beginning of the downturn in Amylin culture. We were told it was an industrywide trend. Then at the outplacement company we were sent to after a layoff, they told us they had nevery heard of anything like that in our industry. They work with every major pharma company in San Diego and are a nationwide company. Sr. Management did an engagement survey and was shocked to learn that the trust level between employees and top management was very low. This was after the major layoff in November of 2008 and a series of smaller layoffs thereafter. Now Amylin continues to do piecemeal layoffs that do not have to be publically reported by this company that is traded on NASDAQ. There was also a restructing of the health benefit plan to HRA and HSA from HMO and PPO that some of the employees did not support.
Advice to Senior Management – Someone needs to take responsiblity for the delays in the approval of Bydureon. These delays have caused many people to lose their jobs or other talented longtime Amylin people to leave the company. It has caused great damage to the company and its people. We were always told that Amylin was a big caring family, but when it came down to it, it was more about the bottom line and senior management keeping their jobs with no accountability for them.

Former Employee – worked at Amylin Pharmaceuticals
Pros – Great benefits, balance of work and great direct manager.
Cons – Too many directors. There might be more directors than manager. The senior IT director doesn't care what you think, it's what he thinks.
Advice to Senior Management – get more qualified staffs and less directors.
