Pros
The people are the best, lots of interdisciplinary cooperation, very smart and inovative research. Immediate management very supportive and forward looking.
Cons
Leveling (downgrading) of our titles a few years ago was just the beginning of the downturn in Amylin culture. We were told it was an industrywide trend. Then at the outplacement company we were sent to after a layoff, they told us they had nevery heard of anything like that in our industry. They work with every major pharma company in San Diego and are a nationwide company. Sr. Management did an engagement survey and was shocked to learn that the trust level between employees and top management was very low. This was after the major layoff in November of 2008 and a series of smaller layoffs thereafter. Now Amylin continues to do piecemeal layoffs that do not have to be publically reported by this company that is traded on NASDAQ. There was also a restructing of the health benefit plan to HRA and HSA from HMO and PPO that some of the employees did not support.
Advice to Senior Management
Someone needs to take responsiblity for the delays in the approval of Bydureon. These delays have caused many people to lose their jobs or other talented longtime Amylin people to leave the company. It has caused great damage to the company and its people. We were always told that Amylin was a big caring family, but when it came down to it, it was more about the bottom line and senior management keeping their jobs with no accountability for them.
Pros
Work life balance was great
Cons
Upper Management lacks direction and is not realistic in their expectations for the future.
Pros
Generally good interpersonal relationships with peers, direct reports and line managers
Good benefits package and concern for work / life balance
Cons
Demonstrated lack of competent executive leadership that has run the company into the ground
Lack of clear strategy and decision making
Advice to Senior Management
Amylin leadership at the executive level needs to be replaced for this organization to survive and be credible as a biopharmaceutical company
Pros
Had potential at one time. Some good people.
Cons
Poor leadership Sr. Director and above -- no team.
Advice to Senior Management
Take a good, honest look inside.
Pros
Flex time when you need it. Some good people. Some horrible people left to ATL (Thanks God!!!). People lies all the time to get their way.
Cons
Health insurance is bad. Managers are bad (liars with superegos). The more you suck up the more you advance. Make sure you attend your boss' barbecues!!!
Advice to Senior Management
Resign please. Clean out house of the middle management and upper management. Some people is ready to retire. Please leave.
Pros
Great benefits, balance of work and great direct manager.
Cons
Too many directors. There might be more directors than manager. The senior IT director doesn't care what you think, it's what he thinks.
Advice to Senior Management
get more qualified staffs and less directors.
Pros
Many mid level manager were very talented managers and the caliber of most employees was high.
Cons
Senior management tended to drive the best away the best people.
Advice to Senior Management
Only adapt management trends if they make sense for your organizations.
Pros
Open minded, supportive, understanding, unbelievable products/pipeline, truly engaged with persons with diabetes, good work environment, supports work/life balance, driven to be the best in the diabetes market.
Cons
small companies always have some areas of opportunity -for example marketing, promotions, development, etc. If a person is looking for major career development that a larger pharmaceutical company may be more appopriate.
Advice to Senior Management
Stay focused; we are an unbelievable family that truly "challenges science and changes lives." Our company goes beyond "typical" pharmaceutical companies by being involved in the community and lives of people with diabetes.
Pros
Work Life Balance and PPO time readily approved
Cons
No career growth. Management does not know and/or does not want to expand their depth or scope of knowledge.
Advice to Senior Management
Employees might have solutions to existing problems even though their title may be low ranked.
Pros
World class scientists dedicated to developing medicines to improve the lives of patients. Great working environment, good benefits, onsite cafeteria and amenities. Chance to work with an excellent group of people.
Cons
Executive management no longer manages on behalf of the patients or the people they claim to value per their "Cultural Beliefs". They now manage on behalf of themselves and a few key stockholders. Amylin is now managed like a corporation with no future.
Advice to Senior Management
If you are not at Amylin to grow the company and serve the patients, get out.
