review of Wilmington site

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Wilmington, MA

I worked at Analog Devices

ProsGreat compensation, colleague and work environment. Many people have been working in ADI for ten or even twenty years.

ConsThe progress of project is sometimes very slow. And there are sometimes too many rules to follow. In general, a little bit conservation.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep on being nice to every employees. Keep on the good focus you put on the projects. But please be more flexible when dealing with company rules.

A wondeful engineering environment ....

Design Engineer (Current Employee)
Wilmington, MA

I have been working at Analog Devices

Pros1. Projects are research oriented
2. Excellent work life balance
3. Flat technical hierarchy
4. Very friendly group of people
5. People induldge in extra cirricular during lunch -- running, biking, swimming, ultimate frisbee, yoga etc.
6. 401k is execellent
7. Good professional advancement
8. No hard deadlines

Cons1. You need to be self motivated and show lots of initiation. Projects don't come to you - u need to make them happen.
2. Health coverage is shrinking every year
3. Pay has been frozen for 2 years now ---- some frustated engineers bcos of that.
4. Upper management doesnt have clear goals for the company --- CEO regurgitates what he said 5. years ago in quarterly updates.
6. Dont see much career advancement
7. Feel isolated from silicon valley dynamics
8. Worst IMMIGRATION department. If you need to apply for green card they have a very slow and incompetant legal department. I've finished 3 years and still not started the process.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop paying the CEO so much money only to have him repeat what he said 5 years ago. We need a new CEO --- one who is young and more dynamic in his leadership style.

Nice rut

Software Engineer (Former Employee)
Norwood, MA

I worked at Analog Devices

ProsLaid back environment
Time to work on personal projects
Very flexible work time, including work from home
Sometimes free food

ConsPay is not competitive
Priorities for the company are not made clear; direction is uncertain
Because of the laid back environment, many employees do the minimum required to get by

Advice to Senior ManagementThe rank and file are not motivated to do a great job because (other than upper management and FAEs) they have no idea what the long term goals are or what the customers need. Work on that.

Analog Devices...overall great place to work but don't stay too long

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Wilmington, MA

I have been working at Analog Devices

ProsAcademic environment stresses learning culture. Envelope is pushed with innovation. Decent profit sharing. Same leadership for significant lengthy time - industry leaders before competitor leaders were even born. Great technical conference annually for knowledge sharing. Decent benefits. Outstanding 401(k) plan. People are proud to work here.

ConsStop off shoring everything. What is the future of this company? 5-year plan is 15 years old. Communication can be better. Need to increase salaries. Better work life balance is needed. Lifers have sense of entitement.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhat is ADI doing about retention? New comp program bites. Expect mass exodus when economy turns. Communicate better to staff and make hard decisions on where R&D $ will be spent. No more peanut buttering.

Good, relaxed work environment.

Software Engineer (Former Employee)
Norwood, MA

I worked at Analog Devices

Pros-Relaxing environment (casual dress code for developers)
-Good learning opportunities/mentoring from senior engineers
-Flexible hours/telecommute opportunities
-Continued education support
-Good vacation policy (you start with 2 weeks)

Cons-Huge disconnect between employees and senior management
-Promotions only possible every 3 years
-Pay is average
-Hard to connect with other development teams/groups

Advice to Senior ManagementReally fix the disconnect with your employees. It is hard when strategies are not clear to see where you as an employee fit into the company. Also make it easier for developers to connect with each other across teams/divisions/groups.
