Pros
Great technical environment, technology savvy staff, highly professional and inteligent engineers. The best engineers in the semiconductor industry you can work with. work life balance is good, not many overtime, annual GTC meeting is good for technical growth and exposure.
Cons
Management team is the worst I have ever seen, Little feedback, lack of promotion transparency. Old fashioned business style and hirearchy. Gen X and Y may have trouble to fit in a depressed environment.
Overal, you will be thrilled by your job and co-worker and will feel depressed by the management.
Advice to Senior Management
top mgr don't value business training which is exactly they need such MBA or organizational behaviour courses. A good engineer does not automaticly qualify for a manager position.
Pros
Lots of ADI lifers. Stong culture. Well diversified portfolio.
Well established: 40+ years old.
Cons
Slow pace. Extra effort doesn't get you much in return. Lots of old people with old ideas

Take more risk. OPBT/reveune isn't the only measure of success.

Flexible schedule, excellent extra-curricular activities, smart individuals from who you can learn.
Cons
Very little opportunity for growth for younger engineers, especially in the digital design group. Senior engineers who have been there for a long time maintain too much control. Further, there is no sound design methodology to create products quickly. If you want to talk about smart things and do cool things without really producing any chips ... this is the group for you.
Advice to Senior Management
The mentorship style of senior engineers is more about musing philosophically about smart designs rather than getting to the simplest description that fits the question asked.
As a young engineer I constantly had to go back to my office and decipher my manager's instructions. It was almost as if I was at a hard school (like MIT) and the teacher just decided to make the homework hard, because he wanted to. I could figure it out and did a good job there but I did not want it to be that way. I wanted to solve problems to make products work rather than create an entire scheme to address the problem simply because that scheme sounded cool. I had spent enough time in school. When you are in industry, it is more important to do the right thing than the 'coolest' thing.
It is important that senior management realizes this if they want this group to succeed. And they need to adopt a mentorship style that allows younger engineers to take the weight off their shoulders. And that includes teaching them appropriately and giving them recognition for hard work and good work.

In general successful company, tons of cash, good bonus and benefits. Very stable company

The management of MPD business unit can be a little bit better. Schedules are not realistic.
Pros
Comfortable place to work with least stress. Good environment to work for with nice people. Time is not flexible but you could work around it to fit your schedule.

No clear career path for non-preferred employees. Performance appraisal is a hoax and just being done for show and not performance based.

Develop a clear cut career path for engineers giving the individual a choice between a management or technical path. Improve performance appraisal system to give more emphasis on the individual's contributions rather than being subjective.
Pros
Excellent environment for graduates. Very open sharing of knowledge. Excellent vacation time. Excellent place to work for work life balance. Some top engineers. pretty decent job security.
Cons
Only moderate compensation levels compared to rival companies. review process can be unfair - top achievers not awarded properly - in fact seemed arbitrary who was awarded what at performance review time. Company possibly becoming more risk averse and less innovative.

reward achievement and make the review process more transparent. Design innovation is going to be key in the next ten years as ADI goes 90% fabless and is competing with TI etc who have propriety processes which they invest heavily in.

Flexability, openness, benefits, profit sharing plan, the company is taking a good direction in terms of its vision and strategy, more importantly great improvements have been made towards informing employees of this direction

In a software/services role within a semiconductor company, avenues for career advancement are somewhat limited

Continually motivate and challenge employees in order to maintain involvement and interest in the company.
Improve on the management of employees in none hardware/marketing roles, e.g. IT, software, et al. What are their motivations, recognition of their contributions, opportunities for advancement at ADI.
Pros
Lots of smart people that you can learn from. A company that does the right things and shows respect for its employees.
Cons
Seems to hire only the best making internal competition keen. Great benefits make it difficult to consider leaving the company.

Continue and increase your amount of availability with employees. Make sure you listen to what they say and what they don't say.
