I worked at Andersen Windows full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Really great people to work with. People stay for a long time because company treats their employees right. Vacation/PTO time is fairly stingy when hired. Hit and miss with middle management. Some really great, some not so much. Lots of tradition with Andersen family. CEO is a great guy. I still bleed Andersen. Promote them whenever I can. Their wood products are outstanding. Warranty second to none. AW pride.

    Cons

PTO stingy. Housing bust affected bonus and raises. I doubt if they are even close to what they were prior to bust.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't micro- manage. Treat employees like you would want to be treated.

    Pros

nice co-workers. nice promises for new employees.

    Cons

Lots of long-term employees who are just putting in time or who are just burned out from working WAY too hard. They talk work-life balance - but expectations from leadership (director level anyway) do not match. Very poor HR management of problem employees. poor performing long-term employees are allowed to continue as they are while everyone just roles their eyes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You seem to be blind to what is really going on. You are loosing good employees. You are driving new employees away. Sr. level management needs to look at director level more closely.....that is where major problems are. Talk directly to those working for directors to find out what is really going on. It isn't good!

    Pros

Not much. You get paid every two weeks and there are very few benefits. Lunch breaks are twenty minutes and you also get 2 ten minute breaks....what incentive...

    Cons

Very physical and demanding. The people you work with are set in their ways and rude. No area for personal growth unless you are related to someone in managment

I have been working at Andersen Windows full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Environmentally conscience, great community supporter, tries to do the right thing for employees. An excellent product with a great reputation.

    Cons

Little opportunity for advancement, no assistance in career planning, supervisors that bully get away with it, and promises when hired have not been fulfilled. I think some of the core company values have gone by the wayside in favor of the bottom line.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to all employees and work to take action when problems at a supervisory level. Assist employees that are working on their career to advance them to new opportunities. Realize that employees are your biggest asset. Be careful of using only market rate for compensation guidelines, as the job market is opening up other employers are offering better pay.
