I have been working at Anderson Pest Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-They constantly portray themselves as a family run company with family values. This is mostly true. Everyone is super nice and helpful. -Communication between departments is outstanding. For the most part, everything going on in the company is very transparent. -Commissions are always correct and paid on time. Commission plan is straight-forward and pretty fair, considering you are selling pest control service. - The service you are selling is probably the best in Chicago. Most of the other companies are terrible and if you get people engaged its fairly easy to sell.

    Cons

    - Sales managers have no sales management experience and are just glorified sales reps who did well and got promoted. . - As stated earlier, the commission plan is fair, but their is very little upside as this is a low margin industry. The base is low and if you are a top, TOP producer you can expect to make no more than 60-65k. Generally speaking, there aren't any extra incentives, and once in a while they will throw something extra out there but it is hardly motivating (i.e. extra $500 for whoever does best in the quarter, yippee!!!!) Bonuses aren't that much either. - There is no flexibility at all. You have to follow everything straight by the book and if you have a bad week you are going to hear about it. - Rampant turnover, most people don't stay longer than a year because of burnout/no incentive to stay. Since you do not get comissioned on existing clients, you have no incentive to hang around and build your book of business. There are "tiered" sales positions where its possible to make more comission and raise your base, but the gates are so high no one has ever even made it to the 2nd tier. And even if you hit the impossible gates, the raise is only like $2,000/yr. - If a customer cancels in less than a year, you get your comission charged back. 95% of the time this is not your fault, they either go out of business or cancel because they dont like the service. You would think that with so much turnover they would try to keep their sales reps happy, but who knows. It feels like you are getting nickeled and dimed with this policy. - No where to go up, really. If you do well, you can get promoted to sales manager but after that its all family members above you. - Benefits are fine, but 401k plan is terrible.

    Advice to Management

-This is a fine entry level job if you are coming out of college and need sales expierence. You learn how to prospect and make phone calls and it can be useful when looking for other jobs. Its a nice company to work for but in the end the money isn't there and it doesn't make sense to stay for more than a year or 2. There needs to be someway to create an incentive to keep people on board instead of having a revolving door of sales reps. -Loosen up a little, give people more time to ramp up and get their feet wet before showing them the door. Most people are right out of college and it is their first job. If you are going to hire college students, you need to show a little more patience and give them time to develop.

    Pros

Forward looking company that stays on the cutting edge. Involves employees in operational and strategic planning. Is willing to make changes when needed. Strives to be the best.

    Cons

To much direction by to few people. Need to reorganize the top end structure to broaden out hierarchy. I believe this will be done.

I have been working at Anderson Pest Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great culture, great environment to work in. Fantastic co-workers which adds to the ease of the workday. Leadership genuinely cares about the individuals growth and development, not just the professional aspect. For the service team, there areas Service centers spread throughout the Chicago area and suburbs to help with commutes. Training is above par for service personnel. The corporate office is always buzzing with activity which helps with the laid back atmosphere. It's definitely not a typical uptight, stuffy corporate environment! Open door policy for those who have ideas and suggestions for areas of improvement to upper management. Management seems to always be looking to better the workplace environment to help the co-workers be successful. Benefits, aside from paid time off, are great. The company really helps to offset the costs to the co-worker. Open positions are usually posted internally first, giving co-workers an opportunity to apply or let others know of the positions available.

    Cons

Only a 2 week paid vacation for the first 10 years. A progressive upward path for each position is not spelled out (or even in existence) for some roles, making it frustrating to look ahead for career advancement. This can result in a deflated attitude when hard work has no way of being rewarded accordingly. Sometimes policies and procedures are implemented too quickly which can be confusing and inconsistent. Also, there have been changes, customer promotions or policy adjustments that are not always communicated in a timely manner to other departments that might be directly impacted.

    Advice to Management

Strive to make sure all departments are on board/informed when making major changes/adjustments. Look into a more fair vacation plan. Consider researching more competitive compensation plans and progressive advancement structures for all departments so co-workers won't be forced to look elsewhere for "better opportunities". Be the Better Opportunity! Continue to lead by example in not only showcasing good core values but also participating in community outreach programs which makes Anderson standout as a great place to work!

    Pros

Really nice people, really good training, and pretty much you feel like the people at Anderson really care about you as a person, not just a worker. Some of the upper management care about you and want to help you advance.

    Cons

Little or no room for advancement as family members keep tight control, raises don't happen much and are small when they do happen. Only 2 weeks vacation for your first 10 years.

    Pros

the people are nice friendly and very helpful. Train was very good while in Class. up today trucks. That after 90 days you get to take home with you.

    Cons

Pay is low. training in the field but direct manager bad. Long hours during the summer over 12 hour days some times. They add appointment to a already full day and expect you to get it all done. Sometime with little to no notice. Working 8 plus hours every Saturday during the summer and even in to winter.

    Advice to Management

Split large routs up that are so big its hard to get from one appointment to another in a reasonable amount of time. If your Manager say something like you can take your next test this week then hold them accountable to that. Don't tell your people to work every Saturday when in training there told its optional.

    Pros

Awesome teamwork. Supportive staff. Keep Techs well supplied. Company vehicle with gas and ipass. Localized routes. Charitable organization. Flexible hours. Weekends off. SOP keeps Anderson ranked high as far as service versus the competitors.

    Cons

Pay increases attached to test instead of performance. Family business. Few vacations. Ridiculous driving restrictions and penalties. SOP leaves Techs hanging in time where instant kill is required. Not much minority leadership in corporate.
