Current Employee – been working at Andrews Kurth part-time for more than a year
Pros – Everyone was very nice and inviting, especially for someone who came in without a lot of experience or knowledge. Everyone was willing to help out in some way.
Cons – There was, at times, a lot of work "backstabbing" or gossip between different colleagues.

Former Employee – worked at Andrews Kurth full-time for more than a year
Pros – * good knowledgable partners
* clarity of partnership track
* humane
* partners were happy to put me front and center on deals and in functions representing the firm -- great real world professional development
Cons – * old boys feeling
* as a lateral, hard to feel completely integrated
* overly hierarchical among some of said "good old boys" associates
Advice to Senior Management – work to integrate your laterals!

Pros – I was with the firm for a long time. For the most part, attorneys are respectful and easy to get along with. The work is challenging, but rewarding. Salaries are decent, but raises are a joke. Bonuses are good, but used to be better. They say they base bonuses on performance, but I really question if that is true. There is no moving up for support staff - what you take is what is get, even though they promise you can move to other areas.
Cons – There are several attorneys at the firm who are prima donnas and are catered to. Management doesn't care what they do because they bring in big bucks. They are allowed to do whatever they want. HR is totally one-sided towards attorneys and management. They are rude, disrespectful and arrogant to secretaries and paralegals. Shameful to have an HR that is completely undependable and whom secretaries are AFRAID to talk to. Sweat shop mentality.
Advice to Senior Management – Hire a support staff who can be a liason between the attorneys, secretaries and HR. HR is worthless when it comes to support. They will only do things their way and do not care about the employees and their needs. Told more than once "there is the door if you don't like it." Time to clean house!
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Pros – - Great people environment
- Great pay for entry level paralegals. They allow overtime pay over your base pay, so you can find yourself making $65k in your FIRST YEAR as an entry-level paralegal.
- Very generous with food. They bring in a lot of food during meetings, and purposely enough so that the entire firm can feast afterwards.
- You never have to leave the office if you needed a drink/soda/water/snacks. They basically have an unlimited supply of it.
- When interviewing with other companies, everyone knows who Andrews Kurth is. They are a very big and powerful name.
- Mail-room support is unmatched. They are bright, positive, and they get things done in a timely manner. They get bonuses too!
- HR is very helpful, straightforward, and are extremely reliable.
Cons – Bigger bonuses to paralegals? Sometimes, they do all of the work.
Advice to Senior Management – Speaking in terms of management in New York, they should stay the way they are now. Perfect management style.

Pros – Stable, large, reputable international firm.
Great separate support facilities (printing, mailing, filing, overflow assistance, etc.)
Competitive-above average payscale.
Decent medical-dental health coverage.
Excellent computer equipment, software training & troubleshooting-help desk.
Bonuses & raises used to be great but not as much so during past 3 years.
Cons – Office management in Dallas branch can be unpredictable, causing confusion, misunderstanding and negative vibes among support staff. Changes, deletions or additions to general office (support staff) policy are frequently made without management/administration's first spending an appropriate amount of time carefully thinking out and considering their long-term impact before enforcing them.
Advice to Senior Management – Spend a reasonably longer amount of time thinking out and researching both potential benefits and potential negative consequences of changing office management/administration policies before actually doing so. Once done, make sure all support staff understand the reasons for changing the policy and exactly how the new policy works.

Pros – Employment and a regular paycheck. Our management is generally considerate when family emergency's arise. Employee appreciation events (Lunch). Bonuses, but they are well earned.
Cons – Near perfection at the workplace is often expected. Stress levels are high. Our lawyers are always right even when they are wrong. As with any large business management can be very "Cold hearted". In most cases never believe you have true friends in upper management. Corporate friendship is dependent upon performance and total loyalty to our company.
Advice to Senior Management – Generally advice from others than management will be ignored.

Pros – For a law firm it's a pretty relaxed place. Most people are nice & friendly. Attire is casual, but jeans are rarely allowed.
Cons – There are no promotions. NO matter how good are your qualifications. The pay raises are so tiny, it's sad. If you are not attorney or paralegal, you do not receive any help or protection from the management. If you ask to be transferred to another desk, that will not happen.
Advice to Senior Management – Look at the qualifications of the current employees, before hiring someone new from the outside. There are so many talanted people at the firm who stand no chance at promotions.

Pros – Adequate income & benefits. Also if you work directly with the attorneys you should be OK; for the most part they tend to be courteous and professional toward their workers, although there are still a few "Texas good ol' boys" there who are not. The regular staff workers can be a lot of fun to work with too.
Cons – Admin/support type departments are the pits however, and some are very cut-throat. The major reasons are that bosses of those departments tend not respect the differences between personal and professional situations, employees are sometimes subject to unwanted physical contact, favoritism bordering outright discrimination runs rampant and pressure to form personal relationships that are often unwelcome. The jobs, assignments and promotions in those departments are basically patronage handouts - and you will wind up paying for your money, believe me. The stress level can be overwhelming. Only for the truly desperate for immediate steady income or completely inexperienced.
Advice to Senior Management – Monitor the way things are done in your support staff departments more carefully; I know of at least 4 or 5 who did things that were illegal at times.
