Pros
Work Family Life allows flexible working
Cons
Staff treatment throughout my years at the bank.
Pros
Excellent experience gained through many interesting years at the bank, both good and bad. Some excellent senior managers, but they are outnumbered by many incompetent ones that were mysteriously over promoted throughout the good years and who now rely on their junior colleagues to prop them up.
Cons
Now that the company is being wound down, all doors are closed. Embarrasing to be associated with a company that caused such destruction to the economy and to so many peoples lives. Its a pity that the word "accountability" does not exist in Ireland.
Advice to Senior Management
Too late for advice. New management here now to clean up the mess which is proving to be a costly process.
Pros
Company once had a great social life for staff and a flexibility in changing roles. There were once opportunities to gain a wide variety of experience. Bonuses were good (when they used to exist) but you certainly worked for them.
This has all disappeared since the company was nationalised (a result of management incompetence, as widely reported in the media).
Cons
Competence and ability were not always the prerequisites for career advancement. This meant a lot of poor managers promoted internally (though some were talented). This happens to a certain extent in all companies but was endemic to Anglo.
Staff were expected to work long hours without question on a weekly basis, which was not always rewarded.
Internal communications were virtually non-existent.
The company has now been disgraced and it looks terrible on a CV.
Advice to Senior Management
Remove inept middle management (inept senior management has already gone).
Pros
Given the current situation, you will learn a lot: "May you be cursed to live in interesting times"
Cons
The organisation is very troubled following the bailout. People are demoralized.
Advice to Senior Management
Work harder on Morale.
Pros
there is a good work life balance, however its difficult to encourage people to work beyond 5 or 6 pm given that there is no bonus structure. can be frustrating if working to deadlines
Cons
truly limited career progression, unrealistic comp levels against what is in the market. the right people not being recognised for promotion
Advice to Senior Management
management need to look at the staff they have and reward for the loyalty and professionalism that has been demonstrated despite the extremely poor performance by the former leadership.
Pros
Location of offices in NYC and Boston
Cons
Lacks competent leadership
Compensation low compared to peers
Advice to Senior Management
None
Pros
Very challenging environmet, if you like that sort of thing. You'll know everybody's name because there are so few people left!
Cons
Nationalised. The best people have left. There are still a few good people remaining, but probably not for long. Senior management is dead wood who have not been able to adapt to the new environment and have been unable to demonstrate any leadership qualities whatsoever. Mediocre people have been over-promoted to senior management positions.
Advice to Senior Management
Communicate better...get rid of dead wood...stop promoting people who are clearly not up to the mark.
Pros
Gained insight into the lending activities of Anglo Irish Bank
Very helpful and kind staff
Nice working environment
In central London
Cons
No sophisticated work required from Interns
Rotational programme takes a lot of time, which is wasted, if you know how you want to specialize
Advice to Senior Management
Allow interns to take on more responsibilities, which should be more sophisticated than what they experience in University rather than be less.
Pros
It was a great opportunity as a student to live and work at the corporate headquarters and the employees were all extremely friendly and welcoming.
Cons
The company has recently seen some serious consequences in the economic downturn.
Advice to Senior Management
Maintain the internship opportunties, and possibly expand upon the program
Pros
Entrepreneurial and driven staff, culture of responsibilty and empowerment, young staff, work hard play hard. Much of what makes it great to work in Anglo is currently hard to find anymore but its there, the management just need to re-energise staff and give new direction and soon while the staff who make the place great are gone
Cons
Company in state of flux, lack of direction & clarification on targets and reward, current staff attrition, inconsistent and opaque internal communications
Advice to Senior Management
Staff want it to work and want to be proud to work at anglo again. keep up good work of repointing company in new direction but be honest and transparent with staff as much as possible, so many staff have lost so much already so dont misprepresent matters.
