I have been working at Animal Health International

    Pros

Flexible schedule, most people are great to work with, training opportunities. Competitiveness and desire to evolve and change with external forces.

    Cons

Unfortunately, executive management stifles company growth and innovations by not actively listening to lower level employee feedback.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cherish the feedback and ideas you receive from your employees. Otherwise these employees take their ideas elsewhere.

I worked at Animal Health International full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Medical benefits are decent and company offers a good PTO package. Company also offers paid time off for major holidays. I appreciated working for a company that followed through with annual reviews. Annual reviews allowed for manager feedback while establishing goals and rating performance. These were a plus because they provided feedback on what areas I was strong and helped to identify areas that need improvement.

    Cons

PTO is all-encompassing so expect to use it if you're ill or have a death in the family because there is no separate bereavement or sick pay. The work culture in the Greeley corporate office is very dismal. There are no off-site team building activities, no company picnics or Christmas parties. It's very much put your head down, do your job, and don't have any fun doing it. Pay is not great, but there is opportunity for an annual pay increases.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be nice if managers were more employee centric. Of course, the culture seems to flow from the top down. I think the company should drop the 'good ol boy' mentality and take a more progressive approach. I personally think they will have trouble attracting and retaining new talent if they don't change with the times.

I worked at Animal Health International full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good inside and outside reps that like to team up and collaborate efforts. Insurance, 401k benefits are decent.

    Cons

The company is positioning itself to get bought! All levels of middle and upper management have no clue about animal health distribution. Their thoughts and ideas of doing business is more like wishful thinking and finally implemented way after all the competition has the business. Their website is below par, salary a joke, policies make it hard to do business, focused on large animal and not the higher profit companion animal, have a bad reputation among vendors and other distributors, and last but not least, management are narcissistic power mongers. The company blames the reps for their own inadequacies and takes no ownership or responsibility for why accounts don't like or want to do business with AHI!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you dish out enough crap, you're eventually going to step in it yourself deservedly!

I have been working at Animal Health International full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I love working for Animal Health International. I was sad to see all the negative comments from ex employees who lost their jobs during the merger. That was a tough time, but boy have times changed. It is a great work environment with co workers who love what they do and have fun at work. You can feel the positive energy when you come to work.

    Cons

The health benefits are ok, but not great. The company does have a 401K, but only at a 3% match.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep spreading the news about the success of the new company!

I worked at Animal Health International full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The industry Animal Health competes in is growing at an incredible pace, all competitors are comping well into the double digits, that is not the case with this company so draw your own conclusions.

    Cons

Too many to list. The potential was there, this company had first mover advantage and could have really been special, but the quality of executive team, unit leaders, and field leaders is really poor. Basically every aspect of the business is failing and nobody wants to make any changes, the same retread leaders are moved around and find reasons to blame everyone other than themselves for the poor results of the company. They have really no chance of pulling out of a tailspin with more established national competitors having already made tough decisions and now finding increasing market share, as result there is no room left at the table for this company.

At the end of the day it is a good ole' boy company that has no identity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Really no point, management does not want to here any dissension or competing viewpoints, they have it all figured out and the results speak for themselves.

    Pros

The company is very large and has a lot of resources along with capital to develop new resources.

    Cons

The company is very process oriented vs. people oriented. I question the role of outside sales representatives in the organization's long term business model

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your customers and the needs of your customers prior to planning the future of the company.

I worked at Animal Health International full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Location and staff at the Westlake location. The offered parking garage which is a plus in Texas. Also it is close to many cities like Southlake, Grapevine, and Roanoke.

    Cons

The biggest downside is the salary for the job duties and responsibilities performed. There also was never any opportunities to grow through training or job advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more to your employees and invest in them to keep the good ones.
